Hi everybody, not so good morning.. I am at my end with this no sleeping!! My son has always been a good sleeper from 3 months, sleeping straight through the night, but now that he is 18 months, he has recently been getting up at 3 am, sometimes 4 am for at least 1 1/2 hours!!!! Each time we check him if he's teething he seems fine, no blocked nose etc... DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIM!? We have tried controlled crying but that takes up to an hour or more....
His routine is - sleeps for an hour during the day goes down between 7.30 - 8.00 and wakes up at 7-7.30.
We always keep bedtimes and bathtimes relaxing and he always has story time before he sleeps.

PLEASE HELP!!!! SOMEONE????

It happens... they grow out of it... not much consolation, I know.
Mine are 18 months apart and when ds2 was about 18 months old we went through a phase of both of them waking 3 or 4 times a night, even though they'd both slept about 10 hours a night from 1 month old!
18 months is a classic time for this behaviour to start. You need to be firm and put him straight back to bed - keep saying 'shhh...' if he talks.
It's a nightmare but it doesn't last for ever.

Thank you fortyplus for your input and so soon on a Monday morning!!! I can barely keep my lids opened!

I keep thinking this might just be a phase, so hopefully, you're right and it is....... thanks again, it 's so comforting to hear we're not the only ones going through this nightmare

Mine are 11 & 13 so the torment of sleepless nights is behind me now
I have testosterone to deal with instead

Tis true.. parenting moves from one minor crisis to the next! You start off fretting about the bf (if you do it), then it's sleepless nights, then teething, weaning, walking, talking, back to sleepless nights when they start waking again, nightmares at about 3, tears at nursery school - will they make any friends, choosing a primary school, reading & writing, SATs, choosing a secondary school, teenage angst - am I cool enough? That's as far as I've got with my 2...
Then it will be first girlfriend, she's chucked me, choosing GCSEs, taking them, A levels, University... until eventually I'll be worrying myself sick about their marriages and the grandchildren - not that I've got their lives mapped out for them, but you know what I mean!
According to my dad there is never a time when your children don't cause you stress!

OMG, say no more fortyplus!
Peony, mine was exactly the same. Blissfull 12 hours sleep untill 18 mths. It was a short lived phase. Then dropped the daytime nap altogether and slept through again.
But at 2.5, we removed bed rail and he was so happy to roam around freely that started waking up and coming into our bed at 3am to finish the night with us.
We don't protest (otherwise you'd be negotiating for hours) and after 5/10 minutes he's fast asleep and we take him back to his bed.
Exhausting at times, but now we all used to our sleepwalking.
I don't really mind his coming to our bed for a cuddle, but always put him back so he wakes up in his own bed.
good luck.

THanks also slim22. But fortyplus, you're right , there is always a time that your children always stress you out, and im only at the beginning!!! It's so crazy to think that you would want another one!!!
But in the morning when your thoughts are clear... they are worth it in the end cheesy
