i lent my copy of the baby whisperer (apologies if not meant to mention books/authors on this web site!) to my sil but remember they was a chapter on starting to potty 'train' from 9 mo - i only skimmed it and ds has just hit 9 mo, am interested to know what it said (don't slate me for trying to train ds before he's ready i was just interested to know what it said) - anyone read it or tried it?

TIA

got the right potty this time and had a poo in it this morning (thats ds not me ) he was quite happy sitting there and loved the praise afterwards - sat and clapped his hands too! but have missed the others - as they happen just after he wakes up or during dinner... do you just carry on with set times to put him on potty or as soon as you know he's started whip him out of highchair and nappy off (by then he's started to go so potential just to get poo everywhere!) i know one of the golden ec rules is to put on potty after accident, just not sure if to attempt it half way through!

bump because haven't told anyone in RL that we're doing this (don't want any negative comments!) so need your advice

R&W,

I was very nervous about telling/showing people in RL but most people have been either positive or don't care either way.

When you are out and about, you can just take the baby to the big toilet and everyone will assume it is you going not the baby

Regarding Pooing. TMI ahead

My DD does three farts ahead of poo, so that is my signal to pop her on the potty.

Most poos come in three spurts close together, so if I saw my DD pooing yes, I would still put her on the potty.

But with one exception recently I haven't had to deal with a pooie nappy for weeks.

readyandwaiting · 25/02/2007 19:05

well fart spotting helped! caught every poo except one today when out when we couldn't find a toilet but i knew he was about to go

thank you for your help

Wow, you are doing very well catching

How old is your son btw ?

readyandwaiting · 26/02/2007 09:43

just 9mo and since i decided to do this i've def become more tuned in to him (actually feel really proud that i can read the signs) can't work out when he's weeing thats really hit and miss but it means i only had to wash one pooey nappy yesterday - and dh changed it so i didn't touch poo once

haven't tried him on toilet yet but need to work that one out for when we're out and about...

Good luck with the big toilet.

I find it easiest to hold my DD over the toilet in the classic position.
This is not our photo but one off an EC site
Classic Position

That way she doesn't have to touch the potentially dirty toilet seat.

readyandwaiting · 27/02/2007 16:31

i was wondering about those seats that fit over the toilets - we've only got one potty at the moment and i clearlty need to get more to stop me having to run upstairs - do you know of any seats that fit over the toilets that accommodate small bums?

still yet to try the toilet when out - shop today had a potty in toilets wish more places did

I have heard that Baby Bjorn do a small toilet insert seat but I haven't got one.

If you find one that works let me know

readyandwaiting · 27/02/2007 21:11

i'll have a look for one and let you know

also the potty we used today was a Boots one that was pretty much identical to the babybjorn one but probably half the price - ds had no problem going on it (although he has worked out he can push potty along the floor with his feet - clear indication that he's finished!)

Ahhh, you have wooden floors. My daughter does the potty shuffle too ;)

readyandwaiting · 05/03/2007 18:46

well have order a baby bjorn toilet seat and got a cheap (£2) boots potty and its also fine for ds's small bum

we're doing ok on using the potty but getting more misses than we did to start with - do you think thats because i'm not being as vidulant?
getting few negative comments when get spotted with potty - hate having to hear how he's too young, what do you say to people without launching into big justification?

I say that Ecing is a very old fashioned traditional method of raising babies which millions of mothers world wise use today. (Indian/Chinese babies mainly)

Bit more info for you...
Disposal nappies were invented in 1941 a mere 66 years ago, before then people used a combination of cloth nappies and Ecing (both in various forms) depending on culture and enviroment.

It is weirder to think that disposable nappies are seen as the ONLY choice these days. Pampers et al have done a fantastic advertising campaign about the merits of disposable nappies.

BabiesEverywhere · 06/03/2007 13:49

R&W,

Don't get hung up about the number of catches versus misses, it really doesn't matter. The thing that matters is that you are communicating with your baby, some days you'll communicate better than other days just keep at it.

readyandwaiting · 07/03/2007 21:11

thanks for messages babieseverywhere - i got the bjorn toilet seat today (second hand on ebay) and its excellent - ds was quite happy sitting on it but when pooed tried to turn round to find out what the splash was! big plus was not having to clean potty out - i'd recommend it
