Car seat ideas please?

I want to get DS (nearly 3) and DD2 (6m) better car seats.
They're currently using hand-me-downs.
What's the safest but not astronomically expensive ones?
Are there any good ones that will last years rather than changing every couple of years?
Thanks Smile

Joie tilt is one of the cheapest rear facing ones, and is good as light enough to carry in to house for naps. Ours was 80 quid from argos. Rear facing is 5x less risk of dying in a front on collision so we decided to go for that once dd grew out of baby seat, and joie tilt is nearly only one which is reasonable price!

Britax is a good, solid brand; and I'd recommend isofix ones, whichever model you go for (and rear facing as long as you can).

Thank you.
Not sure if my car has ISO fix, it's an '11 plate Zafira

Isofix correctly fitted vs seat belt correctly fitted is similar safety in a crash (Isofix slightly less good!) but Isofix is supposed to be more 'idiot proof'. So wouldn't personally worry too much about Isofix or not!

For your DS I would suggest a Britain Evolva 123. We have 4 kids and it is my preferred one for that 3-5 age group as it has an integral harness. The seat is secured with the seatbelt. We have just removed the integral straps and DD is turning 5 in a couple of weeks. It has good head support and the harness has meant when she falls asleep on longer journeys her head remains between the head supports. The seat fits till they are around 10.

We found if you used a high backed booster seat with a normal seat belt on a 3.5- 5 year old and they fell asleep in the car their head kept falling forwards.

I can't say for the baby as there are a lot more rear facing seats out in the last couple of years.
