What kind of scooter does your 6-7 year old have?

DS is 6. We used to live in a place where we drove most everwhere. DS wanted a scooter so I bought him a fairly inexpensive 2-wheeled one that he could use at the park and walks from home. Now we've moved house and he is using the scooter to go to and from school everyday, as well as most other places we go. It was ok at first but now with the wet leaves and possibly icy weather coming I worry about him falling. It's also really annoying to park because it just falls over. All of the other kids his age have 3-wheeled scooters. I'm thinking of buying one for DS, but I wonder if it will kind of be a step backward. How long did your child ride a 3-wheeled scooter? Is it worth buying one for a 6-year-olD who already has a prefectly serviceable two-wheeled scooter?

My son uses a fairly cheap 2 wheeled one and it's been fine however my daughter has a 3 wheel one (shes7) but the two wheels are at the front

We have this one worth every penny ds1 says it's not bumpy and easy to ride compared with riding his friends 2 wheeled scooter. It's very fast though you need to remind them about the break going downhill DS ended up with road rash on his face because dp didn't think to remind him to slow down at the hill (he was 4)

I'd say 3 wheel is a step back. As PP said go for a Flickr scooter (although they're not easy to store) or a stunt scooter. Some have a leg you can flick out to stand it up on. Argos had some good offers on a few weeks a go I got one for my ds (who's also 6) for 29.99. The one I got did say age 8+ but he's tall for his age the 5+ would have been too small

Mine had 3-wheeled from age 2. Asked for 2-wheeled at age 5.5 and got one for xmas but wasn't very good at balancing on it so mostly unused for a year. Then suddenly able to scoot on the 2-wheeler after having separately learned to ride a bike.

I wouldn't buy a 3-wheeler in your situation op. I wouldn't think there is any scooter that is safe to scoot on with slippery leaf-strewn or icy pavements. You can get scooters that have a little flip-down stand for parking though.
