keep my 2.5 year old in pants for trips out or back to nappies?

My daughter is 2 and a half and we have recently started potty training in the house. She showed a lot of signs that she was ready for potty training and up until now 3.5 weeks later she was doing perfectly fine with it. She gets up and uses her potty of her own accord but only in the house. I recently started taking her on short 10 minute trips out of the house in her big girl pants but she refuse to use her potty out of the house or any public toilet. It's almost as if she forgets how to control her bladder as she has many accidents. This is even if we're out the house for 20 minutes at the most. It's like she's gone backwards but only outside of the house.

Do i just go back to putting nappies on her when we go out or carry on with pants? I feel like if i put her back in nappies it will confuse her but at the same time when she keeps wetting herself i feel as if she's getting really worried and embarrassed about it no matter how much i tell her not to worry and that she can try again next time. Mostly everyday she will ask for pants on not a "baby nappy" but it's like she's forgotten how to hold her bladder when we're out?

I would persevere and stick with pants. Going back to nappies will be confusing. If you aren't already, take her for a wee before you go out to try and cut down on the accidents.

Could you involve her in choosing a travel potty that she likes, and maybe that might encourage her to use it? Let her use it round the house too so she gets used to it.

DS was the exact same. I did pull ups when out and about for a week and by the end of the week every pull up was dry and he was asking to go to the toilet so we swapped to pants and he's been fine since. Brand the pull ups as pants though and not nappies. ASDA do some appealing peppa pig Ines.

Terry lined waterproof trainer pants? We've always used them for this phase and they really restrict the flooding of car, bus and other seats to say nothing of trousers, socks and shoes! They're still pants so different from a nappy. HTH

Yes, I agree with Cat - we bought the BambinoMio ones and they definitely catch the little wees.

I went with pull-ups at this stage, but told them they were 'to keep her bottom warm' when we were going out, or in bed. They didn't need them long anyway, but the key is that they're pants, not nappies.

Definitely stick with pants, nappies and pull ups (which are just a nappy with a different name) will confuse her. Once in pants and the child is doing well, stay in pants and she'll soon "get it" outside of the home as well as inside Smile

If you DO go back to nappies for trips out, put pants on first, then they still feel it if they have an accident, and they're still wearing pants, but it minimises mess.
