Plates for kids

So my dc are 5&7. They have grown out of the toddler character plates and bowls and like using more grown up ones. I don't want them using my stuff incase of breakages etc. What do people use for this age range? Need Something more grown up but still hardy and not very breakable.

Standard picnic stuff? Or just buy some super cheap crockery?

DS has always just used the side, and then salad plates from our Denby service once he was out of the 'throwing it off the highchair' stage. Surely at 5 and 7 they are no more likely to break a plate than an adult?

I just go and buy what ever is nice but affordable at the time in Sainsburys. The only breakages that happen now are usually caused by me dropping plates in the kitchen, my 'older' ones are 5, 6 and 9 and just use the plates to eat...I'm not sure what they would do over dinner that would cause plates to break?

Our 4 year old uses our normal IKEA plate set (www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/tableware/dinnerware/dinera-18-piece-service-grey-blue-art-80152546/). It's replaceable if something gets broken, but he's very good with them and seems as likely as us to break anything.

Never used the toddler plates. Thought they were a waste of time. I use normal plates for all of us. Correlle, are brilliant, hardly ever break. Argos or sainsburies or ikea if you are worried about breakages, but definitely cheaper than trying to buy specific stuff for kids.

Once dd and any visiting children are past the "likely to lob it" stage of 3ish then they've just used the side plates or shallow bowls that are part of our regular dinner service.
Tbh dh is much more likely to break something than one of the children!

To be honest, I bought melamine dishes for my boys - I think John Lewis picnic stuff - as my boys are clumsy as fuck and I couldn't be dealing with broken dishes as life is just too short.

Now they are older they are fine but they did drop the melamine plates/bowls a lot. They can make A walk from the dining room to the kitchen while carrying dishes look like an extreme sport.

Obviously they aren't the sporty types.

My 4yr old still uses the toddler plates, after reading this I have no idea why..

cream let's both ditch the plastic ones and see who goes the longest without a broken plateGrin

I was at ikea today and completely forgot to pick some extras up. Angry
