Colic help - Infacol? Gripe water? Both?

My four week baby is on aptamil first milk and for the past week has been really struggling bringing up wind. Prior to this she had no issues. I'm now feeding her 2oz every 2 hours because after this point she cries, pulls up her legs etc and is very unsettled and seems in pain from trapped wind. She settles easily with cuddles and will go to sleep happily. She is content in between feeds and is only upset during feeds.

My health visitor said it sounds like colic and said although there's things on the market like Infacol etc they don't make any recommendations.

Looking for some suggestions of where to start. I should mention she is otherwise fine and gaining weight because she is feeding little and often. I hate seeing her so distressed though.

So Infacol on its own? Gripe water on its own? A combination of both or something else entirely?

HV said out of them all she doesn't like gripe water but all I've read is positive stories!

Any help would be great I'm feeling pretty stressed!

Gripe water is amazing for bring up wind. Boots own gripe water is the most convenient. If you get it don't forget to ask the pharmacist for a syringe.

Had a colicky dd1... My strategy was:

Infacol with every feed
Gripe water for between feeds crying
Swaddling and electric rocker for sanity/chance to eat dinner

But with hindsight she had tongue tie (had op at 2yr old after she had problems with solid food). Also now at age 6 under investigation for lactose intolerance, I know you can buy colief drops for babies, might be worth a try?

My DD had colic. Infacol did nothing for us (although it smells delicious). We put gripe water in every bottle from about 8 weeks to 4 months and I felt it helped.

I tried infacol and gaviscon. Neither made a difference. A dash of gripe water in each bottle worked wonders.

Is changing her formula an option? I had exactly what you describe with dd1, she was on aptamil too and I got through bottles of infacol but the poor thing just kept getting worse. A friend then suggested Hipps Organic (I was very reluctant to change formula) but it got so bad I tried it and within a few feeds the problem was solved. Whatever you decide, hope she feels better soon, no fun for any of you! X

Sounds like Ds. He just couldn't bring his wind up at. Still struggles at 5months (normally comes out the over end). We used infacol and gripe water. He didn't really like the gripe water but loved the infacol. I think they worked. Giving his feed whilst he was swaddled seemed to settle him too. It's such a minefield. We were going to try colief but it's very expensive so persevered with the others.

I should've said - DD ended up being diagnosed as CPMI so it wasn't just trapped wind that was causing her pain. I still use gripe water in her nutrimagin formula but a change in formula might be worth considering as a PP suggested or speak to your HV about possible intolerance

Currently going through the same with DS (2nd baby - 4 weeks old). Have changed his milk to comfort milk exactly a week ago and thought we had cracked it. Had 2 days of relative bliss before the worst night ever 2 nights ago. DH is being an absolute hero and has just taken DS to the other room for my sanity's sake. Have tried swaddling, infacol, tummy massage (helps him poo but nothing else) and rocking/holding him in the tiger on a branch position.

In addition to this when we lie him down for a sleep he brings up feed every time. DD had reflux which we self treated with thickened milk which turned her into a majorly content baby. Would change to thickened feed but think it work cause constipation and don't want to change this feed until we have evidence if is/isn't working.
