Very old Totsbots aren't going to make it til potty training - what can I do??

DD is using ds' cotton Tots which are now very thin and sad. I use a booster with them during the day but they're just not cutting it anymore.

It doesn't help that MIL has already trashed the elastication by pegging them out at full stretch while dripping wet last time she visited (whole nother ranting thread there)

I had 4 nippa bamboozles which have died but will hopefully be velcro-d by Tots if I send them back (as long as they're still offering that).

I have 3 fluffles which are great, but I'm struggling to get them through the wash fast enough - they're my most reliable nappy atm.

Anyway dd is 20 months so possibly up to a year before toilet trained. My ancient Tots aren't going to make it and even 2nd hand ones are going to feel like a bit of a waste for that amount of time.

|So what should I do? Buy say 6 new nappies and hope to resell in order to recoup? Or 6 second hand - would they still have resale after another year's use? Or do something clever to my OAP Tots?

All suggestions gratefully received!!!!

Hmmm...

The old tots you could re-elastic and add another layer of terry whilst you're at it, but it'd be a lot of effort (I'm lazy ).

Tots are still doing the velcro as far as I know, so send those back.

When they get back (dunno what the turn over is) you will have 7 nappies... how many changes are you doing a day?

Thinking if you booster and double up the tots then they would work as night nappies still, giving you 2 days worth of the other ones, and as long as you dry overnight every 2nd night, it could work and you not need to buy any new - but it would involve organisation.

You could probably get cotton tots fairly cheap on the nappy lady/ebay, and they would still be resaleable, but not at such a good rate as new ones would obv. It all depends on how much you have to spend now because I guess that is more important than how much you will get later iyswim.

Buy something a bit more quick drying and then you can get away with less. We have just bought three new fuzzi bunz and they dry really quick with the mf inserts, practically overnight on the radiator. Ds2 is 19 months and they are my nappy of choice for first thing in the morning when he is extra wriggly!!

Should say night times are fine - have got 6 bunhuggers from ebay. Velcro is rubbish though so no good for day time, just for lying down - thankfully dd doesn't fidget while she sleps otherwise we'd be in trouble!

Oh, then just get a few 2nd hand normal tots, or some more fluffles and you should be fine

bobsmum · 15/02/2007 17:55

And a tye dye wambamboo of course

lmao - it took a lot of restraint not to say you neeeeded one of those

Getting a cash injection in the next few weeks (hopefully) so will have blue and pink ones on sale.

How nifty are you with a sewing machine? If you're not too bad and have a reasonable machine, then you you can whip up five or six fleece lined pocket style nappies for buttons.

There are sites that do free nappy patterns - I can link you to a good one if you're interested. Get a few metres of cheap terry, a couple metres of some cheapish fleece, some knicker elastic, polyester thread and over the course of a few evenings, you can make your own.

Tots Bots are still doing the velcro thing, no problem. We are still getting returns of them to be fixed. Good job Wham Bamboos don't suffer from that or our mailbox would be innundated...

Fluffles are great and fast drying, so I would go with a few more of those if I was you. They hold their value well, dry fast (so you need fewer) and are really absorbant.

I'm a huge WB fan too, they're our best selling nappy probably because of that but if you need fast drying for fast turnaround, I would go with fluffles.

Pocket nappies like Fuzzis or Swaddlebees are great for drying speed, but not as absorbant as separates so as you've already got your wraps, the fluffles will prob be best.

Thanks everyone! Corrie thanks for the offer - I wish I was that creative, but I'm all fingers and thumbs and would probably end up with a one-legged nappy.

Right! Will send off the bamboozles (don't really like velcro though, but I guess that's better than deceased nappies!) and then will go for a few more fluffles. THe ones I have now were seconds from Tots - they may well have more.

Next question - do I get rid of the cotton ones altogether? Would anyone want to buy them v cheaply or are they a "free to a good home" type thing now?

Purple tie dye wbbs should be about after the weekend

You can try selling the old dead ones, but probably a free to a good home job now.
