My 2 1/2 year old daughter was doing brilliantly with potty training. We started 6 weeks ago in ernest and barely had an accident for over a month. But recently she decided she wouldn't poo in the potty, was holding on until night time nappy, and now she is having 3 or 4 accidents with wee everyday. The washing machines never off. I can't understand why it has all suddenly gone so wrong. I'm trying to stay calm but with a three month old as well, it's tough. Tried star charts and treats, but it's as if she doesn't actually know when it's going to happen. I don't understand and would love your thoughts.

I'm hoping it's a phase as my 2.5yr old DD is doing great as well. She is in nursery 4 days p/w & has no accidents there yet at home we have days when she has none followed by a day when she doesn't ask to go on the potty & when you ask her she says she doesn't need to go & then promptly wets hersef & tells me laughing 'don't worry'! Aaaahhhhh

same here. dd1 2.7 been dry and clean since Christmas - this week we've had soooo many accidents, weeing NEXT to the potty (wth?) and doing perfect poos in the potty only to do a poo in her knickers in the next 5 minutes. Am exasperated. Any ideas?!

Had the same after Xmas but it only lasted for about 3 weeks. She had been fine for about 2 months before that.

I made it clear it wasn't acceptable most times, shouted (I know!) sometimes and then she just was ok again.

We had the same problem with DD (now 2.2)which started at Christmas, after about 3 weeks of no accidents at all.

We tried the getting cross and explaining that wees must go in the potty approach, but that didn't seem to work. We even had poos in pants which was unheard of since aged 10 months! She wouldn't usually let the whole wee out, she would dampen her pants. It was like you say, as if she'd forgotten to pick up on the signals that she needed to go.

In the end, I am sorry to say, we introduced her to smarties! She is much better at her colours now as a result!. Not sure if this was what worked but I think getting cross wasn't the answer. She was also a bit constipated and we got some lactulose from the docs for that, which seemed to help.

In the end, we decided to keep calm, encourage her to go more often, give loads of praise and keep on top of the washing, and it is so nice to be back to where we were- only 1 pair of pants a day rather than up to 5 or 6 pairs!

It took about 6 weeks to get through this, but we got there in the end. Good luck. I have heard it is very common to have a relapse but you just have to go back to first principles (take them often, praise, reward etc).

Hello,

DD is 28 mths and was potty trained fully by the tie she was 25 mths with rarely ever any accident. She's ever so perfect when we go out as she wears knickers and has never had an accident cos she has a travel pottty which she likes. Suddenly in the past week she has really gone down hill. I ven cried today cos I fell frustrated and deflated. She seems to have an excuse everytime it happens, she says its an accident ( learnt this from nursery). One of the nursery nurses say it might be a UTI but she's pooing on herself as well. Please help any suggestions as to what to do as I am at my wits ends. I have gone back to basics of no knickers in the house this wkd so that she can easily go o the potty hesrelf but she still did everything on herself and the floor, thank God for wooden floor.

PLS HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPP MEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Having similar trouble with my DD 2.5. Practically dry for 3-4 months now hardly making it to toilet at all and weeing everywhere. Thank God for wooden flooring just about sums it up!!

Took her to doc's yesterday in desparation and (if I'm honest) hoping she would have a UTI as some kind of excuse for her behaviour!!!! No such luck all clear and the feeling that she is just being lazy spings to mind! Thought we were getting back on track today as one trousers all day until 4.30 then she's been through three sets of clothes in an hour!

At least we're not alone!!!!!!
