I love my daughter to bits, when I had her I suffered severe post emergency C-sect complications which led to no chances for more so we are a happy family of three! I just feel so immensely lucky to have her!!!
She is a star....but
....she is non stop from the moment she opens her eyes till the million cuddles, one more pee, sip of water one more kiss let's check for dragons under the bed trolls in the cupboard etc ....that's 9.30pm....some time 10pm; she is then solidly asleep till 7-7.15am....
We have tried everything in order to move her sleep early of 1h so that she is asleep at 8.30-9pm but nothing has worked....she is otherwise happy healthy very capable academically and very active....teachers say not to worry ...and I don't but.....
Sometimes I would love to have an evening with DH...
Anyone out there with a late sleeping bird?

That's quite late, mine go 7.00 into bed, asleep by 7.30. Later as a treat at weekends. Try moving it earlier by 15 mins for a few nights, then earlier by another 15 for a few nights until it gets to a reasonable time.

bigkidsdidit · 26/11/2016 19:28

No mine goes st 7 for lights out 7.30. Sleeps till 7am usually.

allegretto · 26/11/2016 19:30

She probably doesn't need any more sleep. My six year olds go to bed around 9.30pm

Usually asleep by 9, sometimes 8:30 if he's been really active. Goes up to bed at about 7:30 but then just faffs about and isn't tired. Up about 6:30. Some children just don't seem to need much sleep...

PrincessHairyMclary · 26/11/2016 19:33

DD is in bed at 7:30 but more often than not isn't asleep until 8:30/9 an sleeps till 7:30.

Try audio CDs, put her to bed at 7:30 and tell her she can listen to the stories. The bookpeople have some sets on offer DD loves the Roald Dahl ones.

uhoh2016 · 26/11/2016 19:40

My 6yo also goes to sleep around 9 too like you I've tried to get him settled earlier but he's not always tired. He is always in his room/bed by 8 ish reading or watching tv he has to be quiet or its lights off straight away if he starts to mess that's the rule.
I sometimes have to work till 8 and they'll be a grandparents til I get home or he'll have football or swimming meaning it's often gone 8.30 before he's even in pjs ready for bed.
At the weekend I don't have a set bedtime but he's usually asleep by 9.30-10 anyway

beela · 26/11/2016 19:42

Ds is usually in bed and asleep by 7.30, 8.00 at the latest. He then sleeps through until 6.30 / 7.00am.

However, for the first FIVE YEARS of his life he would wake at least once a night, sometimes more. And wake earlier. We were very tired.

SillyBub · 26/11/2016 19:43

DD is 6, lights out at 9 and asleep straightaway. She's woken up happy at 7:45 and frequently sleeps in until 9 on the holidays and weekends. She could do with going earlier but her 9yo brother won't go to sleep until 9pm (and wakes happy at 7 every single day). And catches up when she can so I just run with it, although I do countdown the last couple of weeks before the end of term!

SillyBub · 26/11/2016 19:46

To add to the above, I work full time, term time only, so we're not home until 5:30, don't eat until gone 6 but they're both up in their bedrooms usually 8:00 - 8:15, 8:30 at the very latest (apart from Plant Earth nights on Sundays)

hellohelloisitgin · 26/11/2016 19:47

Thanks God is not just us!!!! If I put her to bed too early she is likely to go to sleep even later, so we don't bother these days...she is 'left' after three stories in bed and now reads by herself and around 9.30pm she just turns around and starts to snores .... maybe I am worrying for nothing...

My Dts are 6 bedtime in the week is up to 8ish. Anytime between 7 and 8 depending on how tired they are.
Weekends and holidays can be anytime really.
I am putting them to bed in a bit because I am worn out and I want to spend some adult time with dp who I haven't seen all week.
I know this is going to sound like a lentil weaving alternative to the fabled MN spa day but we find guided meditation for kids really helps them unwind, both of mine lie down and their brains seem to go ping.
We listen to some on YouTube, will pop a link up in a bit.

LucyFuckingPevensie · 26/11/2016 19:52
I just find it means if I put them to bed earlier they're more likely to lie quietly and relax rather than the alternative of bed avoidance.
JavaFee · 26/11/2016 20:47

My 5yo goes to sleep about 9 pm and has been like that for a year or so. Sleeps till 7:15-7:30, longer at the weekends.

Smartleatherbag · 26/11/2016 20:51

Mine is never asleep before 9.30, often it's 10. Even when we have no telly, quiet times, etc. Amongst his peers, they vary. Some are tucked up and sleeping by 8, many seem to be asleep by 9, and then a few like Ds2. Ds 1 was always late asleep but he's got asd so slightly different.

mumofthemonsters808 · 26/11/2016 20:56

DS goes up at 8 o'clock usually asleep by half past and slightly later at weekends, he wakes up at 7.15.

LillyGrinter · 26/11/2016 21:18

I think some children like adults need less sleep. I aim for 8 bedtime but she'd never fall asleep before 9.

hellohelloisitgin · 26/11/2016 21:21

Thank you thank you, I really need to stop worrying but among her peers she is very unusual all asleep by 7.30pm, we are all different

Asleep by 7.15. Everything before that geared for a 7pm bedtime. So work back to include bath, time to eat, story or unwind chat in bed. Light out at 7. Sleeps till 7am. Same routine every night.

uhoh2016 · 26/11/2016 21:58

My ds has swimming 1 night until 7.30 and football twice a week again it's 7.30 when he's getting home
llang how do you manage after school activities with an early bedtime?

Haggisfish · 26/11/2016 22:06

We have a night owl, too. Bedtime 8pm but often awake until 930/10pm.

LittleLionMansMummy · 27/11/2016 19:08

7.30/8 (latest) weekdays. 8.30/ 9 weekends (well, usually just one weekend night, he'll be in bed usual time either Fri or Sat depending on what we're doing). Sleeps 11 to 12 hours a night, so we get a reasonable lie in at weekends.
