Babies and tv

What age did you start letting your babies watch tv? Mine are 10 months old and a friend said her dd would sit and watch in the night garden at that age. To be honest mine would lose interest very quickly and I think that's quite young

My 9 month old won't pay any attention to the television if it is on in a room we are in, she will only glance if there is music. The exception however is In The Night Garden which she discovered at a cousins house. I don't know what it is about it, but she smiles at the tunes and characters and is happy going to bed afterwards so we are happy to let her watch it. It's only 30 mins once a day.

My DD has just turned two and doesn't watch TV yet. It's not forbidden or anything, it just hasn't really come up as an activity. When we've been somewhere with a TV on she's never been massively interested...

I guess a 10-month old might be quite entranced with the lights/colours? I wouldn't be overly stressed if a 10onth old saw some TV but I wouldn't sit them down to watch an episode of something!

Ds is 16 monthly and shows no interest at all. I am not a TV watcher so he hasn't seen a lot. However, I am 30 was pregnant, everyone suggests plonking him in front of the TV while I feed the new baby. I have tried to find something he will watch but he's just not interested.

DS probably started watching In the Night Garden at about 12 months, but there was never a stage where he 'wasn't allowed' to watch tv. Prior to that he liked seeing bright coloured things with music so if it was on and he was there that was fine, it wasn't as if he'd watch it for long anyway, but it was (and still is) handy for keeping him still during nappy changes!

DD started watching at about 14 months when she dropped her morning nap. I parked her in front of CBeebies for the time it took me to shower (can see TVs from shower, weird house layout). It kept her still for long enough to get clean. She is now 2.9 and watched 10-30 mins a day, depending what we're up to. Loves it but not obsessed by it. I like the balance.
