Is your 15 month old a slapper ...

.... or is it just mine? It's getting embarassing - keeps hitting people/other children in the face. He even came home from nursery with a baby-asbo type letter. Do they all do it - is it a (soon to be grown out of) phase? I say a firm and disapproving NO, put him down on the floor or remove him from his victim, but he smirks and sniggers and looks forward to the next time ... what do people do??

from thread title I thought you meant slapper as in 'slut' snigger.....

and sat pondering for ages before clicking on it thinking

was rather relieved it was not as it first appeared

all you can do is re-affirming that this behaviour we 'do not do' It'll sink in ... finally.

Its a phase...

After the seven year olds with girlfriends of a year, I wouldn't have been surprised by anything!

Sorry for confusion, that was my attention seeking behaviour getting the better of me (thinks ... no wonder ds has bad ways ... )

i thought you were going to ask if other people's babies were tarts aswell as yours!

DS is 8mths and pulls my hair (on purpose) and squeezes cheeks in a lovely nail-digging-in way. MIL said there was no point in telling him not to, because it was a natural reaction for him to do it!

He's capable of picking up toys and food, he knows what he's doing, as his grin demonstrates!

I say 'no, that hurts and it's not kind' and move his hands away. If he's being very rough, i put him down on the floor and tell him i don't play with people who hurt me.

They'll get it eventually.

I've got a slapper. And a pusher (same DS - aged 19 months). It upsets me as he's a big chap and towers over his friend of the same age so it looks like bullying. we (friends mum and me) deal with it by taking him away and putting him to sit on his own (usually for about 10 seconds) and then asking him to say sorry, at which point the 2 boys hug.

Honestly don't know if it's getting better, and I don't know if there's a better way of handling it. I'm hoping it's a phase and he is just figuring out his own strength, but I feel you can't not somehow tell him it's wrong...

To repeat the original post: what do people do???

DS smacks everyone and then shouts ouch I keep saying no but his daddy comes home and play fights with him so he won't stop

ah - I do actually have the other kind of slapper ! OK, my dd is actually 22 months old so practically a teenager but this is is also embarrassing - she flirts outrageously with any man in sight (especially builders). She bats her eyelashes & actually puts on a wiggle when she walks & knows someone is watching....dh is VERY worried!

Sorry no help re the physical slapping. DD did bite for a while at that age at nursery but it was dealt with as it occurred (just as you are doing) and it did turn out to be a phase...
