What would you recommend having at home?

You won't be able to use much for a newborn tbh but calpol, saline nasal spray, snufflebabe (like Vicks) may be useful

Agree with demented. Can't use much. Olbas oil is good but not as a newborn. Ditto Calpol.

I'd buy a good in ear thermometer. Also a Nose Frida.

Calpol and saline nasal spray is all I have. They don't actually need much. Most babies are very resilient, Ds caught a cold at around 15 weeks and aside from being a bit snuffly and off his milk he got over it pretty quickly with only a few squirtsnof the saline spray at night.

When they are very little you shouldn't give them anything without medical advice anyway. As other posters have suggested, saline drops, thermometer, calpol and a snot sucker (not sure what it's technical name is, but they are great for clearing blocked noses)

Those Calpol plug in vaporisers. I'm never certain they work but they do smell lovely and there not much else you can try other than the aforementioned snufflebabe and Calpol.

Is it your first baby? Most first babies I've known have been fairly bug free as they usually aren't exposed to toddlers much. It's the second and thirds who get everything...

Calpol isn't licensed for use under 8 weeks and then only for vaccinations. The calpol vaporisers aren't suitable under 3 months. You probably won't need much and would need to seek medical advise first anyway.

Yes ear thermometer is a good call.

You could get a nasal aspirator,nail clippers and also some bandages in case if any injuries happen.It is better to prevent infection.

Try and get one which gives a reading quickly as they seem to hate it!

Babies 6+ months - calpol, nurofen (better than calpol for teething) and teething gels (Anbesol is way more powerful than all the others, it has a different active ingredient, but use with caution). There still isn't much you can give them for colds etc but olbas oil is helpful , or those plug ins mentioned above.

EBF babies should have vitamins from 6 months. And all babies should have vitamin D I think (can't remember when from).

We were given vitamin D tablets (dissolvable) to start giving from 10 days old.

We have a bottom thermometer, apparently it is the most accurate. We didn't need anything other than saline solution for a blocked nose in the first 3 months. My baby was January born.

We bought our thermometer from Boots. It's made by Braun.
