How long can a baby go without milk

My little boy is going completely off milk as he's not feeling so good. I took him to doctors yesterday he said he wasn't as concerned yet but to keep an eye on him.

How long can they go without milk?

Should I keep giving him more weetabix with his milk so he's getting something?

He's 4 and a half months

If you wean before 6 mo.ths I think know our are supposed to avoid wheat/gluten

Stick to veg and fruit purees fir a bit.

I'd lay off the food til he feels better though and offer bottles little and often

hoddtastic · 16/11/2016 12:29

did you do any research about it? I am just wondering as all evidence says to lay off weaning (unless medically advised obv) to 26 weeks or there abouts.

Why do you want to wean him for nursery? I'm assuming he's FF so feeding at nursery isn't an issue?

Mind you don't get any hair in his weetabix OP.

Look, I know it's generally poor form to cross reference threads, but this is the second time you've posted that you are choosing to do the opposite of the nhs guidelines. Things that a lot of people would consider unsafe for such a tiny baby.

I would strongly (and kindly) suggest that you do some more research into the care of small babies, as I fear you will run into serious issues if you carry on with early weaning and the very unsafe method you currently use for preparing your baby's bottles.

Do you have support around you in 'real life'?

Please listen to everyone who has posted. It is not recommended to wean before six months, BUT if you do, you shouldn't be giving anything that contains gluten, so Weetabix is a huge no.

My DS went off his food and milk for a while, when he had a bug. In hindsight I think he had a sore throat, which made it painful for him to swallow. He was >6m at that point so he was already weaning, he wasn't interested in anything much though. He was formula and breastfed at that point.

I am not getting in to the whole weaning debate, if I were you I would be happy to get anything in to him if he's unwell, whether it's weetabix, milk, whatever.

If he's not taking (much) milk you could see if he takes water with dioralyte to keep him hydrated. At one point my baby didn't eat or drink anything for twelve hours (and not much before that time - ), whereas he would normally still have a night feed, that morning he woke up looking all mottled and he cried in a 'different' way, if you know what I mean. He had a good milk feed that morning, his skin colour improved, and I took him to the GP, she looked him over and said he was probably dehydrated that morning but fine now.

Anyway, apart from light nappies, look out for mottled skin. You will know something is wrong when he is properly dehydrated.
