metanium makes cloth nappies less absorbant?

DD has really bad nappy rash sporadically - if she gets sores, the only thing that helps is metanium. However, I have noticed a couple of times when I take a nappy of that there are drops of liquid floating on top of a layer of metanium that had rubbed off onto the nappy liner. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, any recommendations on cream that works (sudocream makes her scream, organic baby salve works as long as she does not have sores, and fullers earth cream made no noticeable difference - I'm spending a fortune on creams, but I don't want to use disposables )

maybe use a paper liner instead of fleece when she's got the bad nappy rash?
fleece liners are v v absorbant

Any nappy cream will make them less absorbent if you use a lot of it, because it transfers into the nappy that then becomes as liquid proof as your child bum)

I use a little bit of metanium with fleece liners and hadn't had a problem

but I only use a tiny smear of it

TBH, a thick layer of any barrier cream will tend to do the same to disposables, so changing to those wouldn't help even if you were prepared to do it.

I pop a paper liner on top of the fleece one when using any cream - Sudocrem or Metanium are our usuals.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'm probably overdoing it with the cream, but I will try paper liners as well.

I found that when ds's bottom was sore that the liner stuck to the metanium and hence his bottom! I would go for fleece liners or maybe some vaseline.

I used a really thin layer of metanium - you don't need much, with the fleece liners, sometimes the liners needed washing twice to get all the metanium off. It was the only thing that worked for dd too. You can get metanium on prescription from your dr or HV, then it'll be free.

Thanks for that tip!
