I can't see any other threads like this running at the moment, but please tell me if I'm wrong (and link).

Can we please list our collective ideas for things to do next week? DH & I are 'sharing' the childcare of the kids (7 & 4) and so far have nothing planned (eek!). We're usually away for this particular week, but not this year, and I'm feeling a bit disorganised and lacking in inspiration.

OK - so here's the criteria:

  • Cost: ideally FREE, but less than £30/ day (i.e. not all the themeparks etc)
  • Out of the house for at least part of the day
  • preferably not likely to be fighting with the 'masses' i.e. long queues / frazzled children etc
  • extra points for things which 'help mummy & daddy' e.g. car-washing

Some suggestions to start off might be:

  • cinema
  • swimming pool/ leisure centre
  • walk in the woods/ pub lunch (might be pushing the £30 !)
  • park- bikes, scooters, skates (yawn!)
  • making Valentine's cards

not very inspiring, see what I mean??

Mmm. Probably a trip to the library too.

Tidying the playroom and

Rearranging bedrooms

Sorting out old toys and clothes too...

What a lot of fun my kids have to look forward to...

My dd started holidays today. Have just come back from the library...

Tomorrow was going to go through toys because they are overflowing everywhere..

My kids are in for a treat too!!

February is just not an inspiring month is it? My only suggestion is to check your local government website because lots of museums, galleries, libraries etc run special events in the holidays. No good for me though - ds 3yrs still too much of a whirlwind for that kind of thing.

lots of museums are free - we are going to one in Sheffield that has interactive stuff for kids.
The Deep in Hull - we have free tickets.
get together with other mumsnetters - kids play together and grown-ups get to natter and drink coffee.
Local Children's centre (Surestart) has some free activities lined up for half term too.

Ours is the week after next so we're having a pancake party!
Haircuts and visit to sweet shop will take up part of a morning.
Charlotte's web will no doubt be running 24/7 at the cinema.
