Help- my WBBs are too big for my 5 week old!

After having DS1 who was 8lb7 when born and over 10lbs by week 4, I was expecting to have a similar size baby the second time around, so using my size 2 wbbs would not be a problem.

However my DD2 was only 6lbs3 when born and at 5 weeks, they still seem too big for her.

Anyone have any suggestions on how exactly to fold them down for a small baby. She is long and thin so they are just too big between the legs.

Money is pretty tight so dont want to buy a size 1 if I can help it.

wasn't really sure what wbbs are but have you thought about about reuseable nappies?
You can get the terry style ones which would be cheaper.
we've been using some from little green earthlets for nearly a year now and you really do save money with them, we do use disposables aswell when we go out to toddler group etc.

Sorry they are wambamboos - have been using them for DS1 who is 18months and they are great!

Swapped to reuables for DS1 when he was about 1 year old so never used them for a small baby.

Yes, remove the booster to remove the bulk between the legs, then fold down the front of the nappy towards you, and wrap it round as normal. Then nippa it.

Any problems drop me an email to [email protected]

We can do a hire pack of size 1 WBB if you get desperate.

you could try muslins or bamboo terries (the 40cm ones) for the time being - they are both alot slimmer than shaped nappies tho to be honest, I think the WBB is the slimmest shaped there is (I have one and can't wait to try it on the next baby BUT DS was 6lb 8 at birth so it'll be interesting).

www.babeco.co.uk do the small bamboo terries, they are a co-op based in Bristol, I've got some on order as I tried their large ones and they still fit DS at 3 yrs!!!

Dragonhart · 12/02/2007 10:36

Cheers- tried that makesachange but makes her legs go out sideways so she cant straighten them.

Mrswags - I bought some bamboo terrys from there afew months ago but they have warped into very odd shapes- not even rectangles- and my folding skills are not good enough to use them as terrys. Usingthem as a night booster for DS as he is a pretty heavy wetter. Also tried muslins but DD obviously takes after her brother and wts through them in less than an hour!

Just wondered if there are any tricks that I could try to make them abit smaller?

Hi Dragon,

Sorry - there's no other way I know of to make them smaller :-(( Really, WBB size 2 are best for babies of at least 8Lb if not bigger. Maybe the hire pack option would be the best way forward?

My little boy was early and weighed 5.5 lbs and we used newborn prefolds held closed with a nappi nippa and newborn cotton bottoms wraps, they were still a little bulky, but even newborn disposables were bulky, so it may just be something you have to live with for a short time.
He was very frog-like even without a nappy
Muslins are pretty slim especially if you get a newborn size, or even just buy some and cut it to the size you want? Or cut soft tea towels in half and pad fold them perhaps with a nappi nippa.
At least it wouldn't cost much.
If you want some folding tips try these links
Prefold/muslin folds
terry folds
I hope that helps a bit.
You could probably pick up some cheap newborn size prefolds/terries/muslins on Ebay.

maisiemog · 13/02/2007 18:05

Oh sorry I see you have tried muslins.
Although prefolds can be a bit leakier than fitteds on newborns, they might be good for you, because of the padded centre bit, and they are the least difficult to fold. I'm a moron when it comes to folding terries, and I really wanted to.
I would used them on a newborn again for sure, but I recommend the bummis wrap with them because it fits really well round the legs, even chicken legs and keeps in any leaks.

Thanks for the offer makesachage-sorry it has taken so long. Sure two take more time than double one iyswim! Dont think iu will need it though as wbbs fit dd now, hurray! She is about 9lbs so guess you areright about the 8lbs+.

Now fed up with wraps! Loved my lg motherease airflow wraps for ds so bought some xl for ds as he has out grown lg and some med for dd.

Xl dont really seem all that bigger, esp in the leg and med fit dd waist but are way too big for her leg! grrr!
