What alternatives are there instead of giving your 1 year old full fat cow's milk?

I think my LO is allergic/lactose intolerant to full fat cow's milk. What other alternative are there to give my 1 year old?

My LO has been breastfed for a year. When he turned 1 I gradually decreased the breast feeds as follows:

Week 1 - 2 to 3 breastfeeds a day and 1 bottle of full fat cow's milk from Aldi.

Week 2 - 1 to 2 breastfeeds a day and 2 bottles of full fat cow's milk from Aldi.

Week 3 - 1 breastfeed a day and 3 bottles of full fat cow's milk from Sainsbury.

Week 4 - quick breastfeed just after nursery and 3 bottles of full fat cow's milk

During week 3 he started getting a cough and cold because he started nursery so I started to give him honey in his milk.

His poos at the end of week 3 have been very lose, like he has diarreah and it causing bad nappy rash and peeling his skin.

I thought it was the honey but didn't put honey in his bedtime feed and he did a poo straight after having milk.

Maybe he cannot handle so much cow's milk.

Have you had the same problem with your LO ?

Oatley for mine from one, mixed with formula and then gradually reduced the formula, i also used the Wellbaby vitamins.

Up to 50% of cmpi kids also have a problem with soya but the allergies consultant paed we were under for my eldest said Oat milk was fine.

Goats milk is closest to breast milk in terns of proteins so try that.

Is he unhappy? Loose poos in and of them selves wouldn't cause me too much worry. Is he changed quickly enough at nursery, that will cause nappy rash. Is he teething? There are just too many other things going on for me to rush to alter his milk. 3 bottles a day is a lot. My 15 month old has one cup a day (at bedtime) then milk as a drink once a day, plus cereal etc. My ds started pre school 9 months ago and has had every bug going since then, they're breeding grounds! If your ds isn't obviously in pain I'd stick with the cows milk but cut a bottle a day out (don't ever put honey in it)and wait a week until either bug clears up or a tooth appears. Metanium is good for nappy rash.

When my DS1 was 12.5 months I stopped breastfeeding and started him on formula. He had a mild intolerance to cow's milk - I could tell because the skin on his face went red wherever the milk touched it (e.g. the line of milk dribbling out of the corner of his mouth). Same problem with yoghurts. He was fine with breastmilk though.

I gave him soya milk and yoghurts for a while (from a cup - I agree with pp to ditch the bottle if you can). Luckily he was fine with cheese (for calcium, as mentioned by another pp). Then a few months later he just outgrew it and the problem went away. I understand that this is quite common for mild intolerances.

Soy milk is not suitable for young children, especially boys, because soy imitates oestrogen and can disrupt their hormonal development. It's probably fine as a supplemental drink but I wouldn't go for it. Also, avoid rice milk as it contains high levels (for babies) of arsenic.

Try oat milk or CMPI formula (use formula for under-1s, the over 12 month formula is all sweetened.)

He doesn't need milk at this age anyway so if it's not agreeing with him and you don't want to carry on breastfeeding it might be a good time to wean him off.

Tixylix has a baby format, that's better for coughs and sore throats than honey, you can get it in pharmacies over the counter.

I will take him to doctors this week if I can get an appointment and see what the doctor suggests.
