What to do with 8yr old girls?

Dd 8 is inviting her friend for a sleep-over. Any fantastic ideas to keep them amused for the evening? My dd is a bit of a tomboy, whereas her friend is very girlie. Having said that, although dd is usually happier playing with boys, I'm sure she'd quite enjoy experimenting with a bit of girlie stuff too.

I should be full of ideas but am finding this one a bit more difficult.

Thanks very much for that DrunkenSailor. Ds will be 'ditched-off' to his auntie for the night, so it won't matter if the girls decide to keep one another awake!

Designing t shirts is a lovely idea and so is hot chocolate with marshmallows!(just as long as they don't throw it up during the night!) Imagine!!

Also agree with making it a fairly swift departure the following day. I know dd when she's sleep deprived and it's not pleasant!

The T-shirts idea is fab. Creative, fun and not too girly.

I would LOVE to do that with girls

They always enjoy decorating a biscuit too.

making own pizzas is always good too

supersox · 08/02/2007 19:37

Actually Greensleeves, our guest has requested pizza when she comes, so another good idea to fill time and add to the enjoyment! Beats a supermarket pizza too!

agree with the pizza - my dd did that as part of her 8th party sleepover. They made monster faces with the veg toppings.

They iced ghost biscuits.

They also made a candle holder by gluing black and orange tissue paper on to a jam jar (twas halloween hence those colours). Very simple and I lit them on teh breakfast table.

And dh played a board game with them which went down well.

Then the trouble was getting them to bed...

How about getting a couple of plain white mugs and some acrylic paints to decorate them.

I saw some bath crayons in the supermarket, a bit babyish but mine still like all that mucking about in the bath. Also, is it appropriate for the two girls to share a bath? When dd stayed at the same friends house, they had a bath together in the morning and I didn't mind a bit. I am quite familiar with the M&D though. The reason I say this, is because when ds stayed at his friends house, they shared a bath but the mum insisted they both wear swimming trunks. Everyone has a different view, would be good to hear a few more on the subject.

i'D Avoid the bath. You never know what others' opinions on this might be and it's not necessary so avoid.

Yes pointydog, I agree as a general rule, unless it's close family but as I said, my dd did share a bath with the very same friend when she stayed over at theirs and I didn't feel odd about it at the time. Mine always bath before bed but it won't hurt not to for once. Wouldn't want to send the girl home grubby though, so might stick her in on her own in the morning!

I'm brave enough yorkshirelass79 but actually both girls have lovely long hair so could do each others. In fact dd has one of those hair colouring tong things she had for Christmas. Or is that asking for trouble?! Guess they should do me, just incase it only washes out after 6-8 shampoos!
