How often do you bathe your baby?

DD (first born) is 14 weeks and currently we give her a bath twice a week. I also go swimming with her once a week and have a quick shower in the changing rooms afterwards with her - mainly just to warm her up, I don't wash her in the shower.

Is twice a week enough or am I being lazy?

She isn't at the stage yet where she loves baths but seems to have gotten past the stage where she hated them and cried the roof off.

Nappy changes are cleaned with wet wipes rather than water.

Would be interested to know what the norm is.

Thanks :)

OP I wouldn't get in the shower with a very small baby. You can't tell where all the water is going.

You can get a bucket-type bath from Tommy I think. They look less scary than regular baby baths.

Sorry for multiple posts - on thinking about it, OP, if it's going to cause you undue stress I think bath twice weekly then top and tail the other days is probably fine.

Twice a week. She had some baby eczema so it was better for her not to wash her too frequently. She seems to be past the eczema now (at 2) but we are sticking with twice a week for now. Her face gets wiped with a damp flannel after meals and her bum gets wiped at nappy changes. The rest doesn't seen to get that dirty!

Ds now 13 and dd is 5, both bath daily and always have done.
Ds often has two a day, waiting for the dirty smelly stereotypical teen to surface but he's quite the opposite.

I think it helps to establish a routine and nothing nicer than a freshly bathed baby. Can't believe some people do it once a week, to me that's lazy.

Twice a week, once mid week and once at the weekend. I do most nappy changes with water though (the changing table is in the bathroom) and wash his face loads because he finds it super fun.

DD's shower this evening with DP was a success Smile I wouldn't do it regularly but will be handy when a bath is too much of a faff. Gonetosee what do you mean by be careful as you can't see where the water is going with a young baby? Just wanted to check that we're not doing something we shouldn't be! I do have a bucket type bath for DD I just find it such a faff filling it and carrying it. Can still only seem to manage to bath her properly with DPs help which seems a bit pathetic. Am sure it'll be much easier when she can sit up on her own and I can bath her in the big bath

Though I was standing beside shower with a towel ready to lift her from DP so it still took two of us to wash her Blush

I bathed DS in the big bath from about 10 weeks. Just put a couple of inches of water in and lie him on his back, they can't go anywhere. I actually find it harder now he wants to be sat up in the bath as I have to be ready to catch him if he falls. Still wash him and brush his teeth with him lying down in the bath though, much easier!

I have twins and they have always been bathed every day. One has bad eczema and they advised me to do this. It is busy lol

PotatoBread · 13/10/2016 21:01

Think I need to get over my fear of bathing DD on my own - always have to do it with DP so it requires both of us to be available! She was 6 weeks premature and teeny tiny when born so I was petrified of doing it then so always made DP so it and it's stayed that way!

Couple of times a week until weaning started. But I had twins the first time around and then 3 under 3 when the next one arrived! Once they could sit in a bath seat:sit up it became easier and have done bath every night since about 6mo apart from if we are out late or someone is ill )or you know, someone point blank refuses to get in!)

As newborns I bathed my children every other day and from about 2 or 3 months onwards every day. It was part of their bed time routine and it worked for us. It helped to settle them down for bed. Now age 5 and 1, they absolutely love bath time and bathe every night before bed. My five year old has Autism so that has to be part of his strict routine too!

29redshoes · 13/10/2016 21:44

Every night since she was about 2 months, started it as part of establishing a bedtime routine. It's usually a fairly quick dip in the water though and I only rarely use any shampoo/bubble bath.
