Do you sterilise your weaning equipment?!

I did! Dummies, ice cube trays, beakers, bowls, plates they were all sterilised. But not pans. Did it till they were one. In my defence they were premature and I was probably over anxious.

Nope, you can stop sterilising everything apart from equipment for milk from 6 months. Bottles etc should be until they're 1

Oops I stopped sterilising bottles after six months, too! I figured the stuff he was putting in his mouth off the floor was grimmer than anything lurking in a freshly washed bottle

My dd is 8 months,
I only sterilise her milk bottles.
Spoons, bowls and sippt cups are just washed in warm soapy water

I sterilsed sippy cups, spoons etc. until DD1 was 1! Do I not need to do that? Due DD2 so would be good to avoid the faff. Good point by PP - once they start crawling they probably pick up worse from the floor. Why did I think it was 1?

I didn't have weaning equipment. DS ate what was chucked at him from what we were having.

I sterilise everything and I mean EVERYTHING hand blender ice cube trays spoons etc and my dd is 9m

Was it Gina Ford that reckoned you should sterilise your boobs or was that someone else?

I'm not sure I've ever sterilised anything...DS is 2.5. But he didn't have dummies or bottles.

I didn't have "weaning equipment", apart from a few plastic bowls and spoons.
I didn't do blending or purees, my babies just started eating normal family food.

fox- same here. I have never sterilised anything, but again I never used bottles or dummies.

Bloody hate Gina Ford, don't listen to a word she says.

I stopped sterilising bottles (never bothered with spoons and bowls) at about 7mnths when I caught dd crawling to cat food and put a load in her mouth.

Another one who hates Gina Ford. I threw her books out. Didn't give them away. Threw them out, they were that bad. Mumsnet gives much better advice that doesn't just come from one perspective.

Pans, plates, beakers without the sippy bit, cutlery etc should all be fine to be washed in hot water with washing up liquid. I've always sterilised the sippy bits/straws/mouthpieces of bottles and still cold sterilise DD's school bottle in Milton at the end of the week because I just can't get to all the components with a brush.

I loved the Gina ford book it was great, so helpful. However mine were already in the Gina ford routine as they were in scbu for a month and it's basically the same routine as hospital routine.

No. I think anything that you use formula in maybe but we didn't use it so not sure? Gina Ford is insane, ignore.

I think in many other countries they do not sterilise even bottles - they simply wash them properly and that is entirely adequate.

There was a long running thread about this in MN when I joined years ago.

I found the whole sterilising thing made me incredibly anxious when I was a new mum. I have never sterilised anything for my subsequent children. Dishwashing or properly washing in hot soapy water and then allowed to air dry.

No, never sterilized anything (although didn't use anything that would have required sterilization until 6 months anyway and went straight to cups not bottles).

For whoever asked, it wasnt GF who suggested sterilising nipples, it was Jo Frost.

In fact, she suggested one should dip then in cold water before starting and then put vinegar on them
