Hi, out of the blue this morning ds asked to go for a wee and to be held on toilet (2.10). So far about 4 wees and 2 poos and one accident (too caught up in playing) Shocked...yes I am, unprepared.....oh yes yes yes. I desperately need to go and do a food shop. Oh god, make that 2 accidents.......hang on

What do I do about going to the shop? What do I take, what happens if he pees everywhere???? Do I wipe it all up whilst blushing furiously, or shall I just pop him in a nappy (he doesn't want to wear them) for the trip???

Urgent help required as am getting hungry!!!!!

Get him to loo before you go out.

Make the trip fast, and offer to take him to the store loo if they have one, while you're there.

Take extra trousers+pants, and some materials to clean up with, if he has an accident while you're out.

Offer loo as soon as you get back.

Don't feel too embarrassed if the worse happens, or he gets to water a bush in the carpark.

Bless. Any big boy pants around? They tend to disperse the flow, so that the trousers take up most of the fluid!

Failing that 2 pairs of trousers on - and a spare in the bag - and a towel for the carseat.

(or a prize/treat if he wears a nappy just to the shops, and then can take it off at home later)

Good luck.

Washable training pants prevent actual puddles, or you can make little absorbent pads out of cloth and sew them into his pants. You can take a potty out too. It's great when children decide to train themselves - also means they learn faster as they really want to do it. Good luck!

OK, thanks. I do have pants for him, after the last time so that's ok. Will just go with it. We are walking a dog first and he is quite excited about weeing in a bush, so hopefully that will be okay. Will also take him to store toilets before we start.

Thanks. Wish me luck........I'm going in.........

Best of luck. My dss went through a phase of refusing to wee anywhere but in bushes!! (At least it's easier than with girls!)

BernieBear · 06/02/2007 16:32

Right, well overall a very good afternoon. He took great delight in weeing in bushes (but then what male doesn't!) to the point he was telling the dog about it over and over again. Got to store, attempted the toilets but he refused. Got half way through shopping and I asked again if he wanted to go and he said yes. Que - mad trolley dash through staff who, shall we say weren't so "happy to help" and another wee on toilet in store. Got home accompanied by Bob and Scrambler as a well done pressie and time for tea so we will wait and see what tomorrow brings. But I have to say I am shocked, stunned and very very tired......where's the wine

....oh another accident on his favourite Thomas chair, we are all dooooooomed, dooooooomed I say. Scrap the wine, want gin.

Think I need some advice. Had to work yesterday (part time) and ds had about 50% success rate with cm. Then on his return home he pooed.......everywhere (think he had been holding it in) we are talking pants, joggers, floor, wall and then 20 mins later in the bath. He got so very upset (I didn't react just told him not to worry and to tell me when he wants to go) but he was so shocked he has now said he wants to go back in nappies. He stopped saying yesterday that he wanted to go and the only way to get him to go was by putting him on toilet/potty. Should I put him back in nappies or keep going?????

Oh bless him! That was quite an explosion! I would go with what he wants and remove any pressure. It's fine to go back to nappies - it will be empowering, showing him that he is in charge of this bit of his life, then eventually he won't feel he has to "hold it in".

Let him have a day or two in nappies, and then gently suggest that he takes them off and runs around without a nappy, when you are having some time at home. (I used to keep the potty in the room with us, at first, so that mine didn't even have to wait until they got to the bathroom.) Once he has a few more successes in a stress free environment, he'll soon want to try again.

strangefruit · 09/02/2007 10:35

berniebear, your ds has done so well, I think pp is right about nappies or cloth trainer pants with liner?

BernieBear · 10/02/2007 09:32

Rrrrright, I put him back in nappies (will get some cloth trainer pants this weekend)for Thursday and he went back into pants on Friday (his request - why does he always request this when I have to work...last time I took two weeks off!) popped him in car seat to take to cm who is 2 mins away and he weeed in car seat - BUT he did tell me, rather than completely ignore it - a small step forward. Will give him the weekend and if no improvement will give us both some time off. He gets into such foul moods when wearing pants and toilet training it is draining on both of us! Frustration I think (on his part - my frustration is cunningly hidden!)

Hi there. he is doing so well. My ds was not interested at all until he was 3!
I would go with what he wants so as not to add pressure for both of you. You could try pull ups as he could use toilet when he wanted but they would "catch" any accidents.
Good luck
