I already have a degree, so will I get funding to do another?

I want to go off on a different career path, and I'd need to do a degree to do it, however, I already have one, so will I find it really hard to get funding?

Is it a postgraduate degree?

You don't get funding to do undergraduate degrees anyway (unless you mean the OU, but they won't fund a second UG degree)

This is from the student finance site which has lots of other information, including sections on help for student parents.
"Previous study
If you have studied before, this may affect your entitlement to student finance.

You may not be able to get financial help if you have taken a course of higher education in the past and either:

you received student finance from the government to do it
or:

the college or university received funding from the government

Generally, from September 2006 onwards, you will be entitled to financial help for the length of your course, plus one extra year if necessary to cover things like false starts and transfers.

If you are unsure about whether your previous study affects your entitlement to financial help, speak to your local authority or university.

oops sorry yes I see what you mean - would you get another student loan?

I'm guessing that might be difficult if you've already had one, but don't know the rules on that, sorry

I know about getting funding for childcare foundation degrees without having to apply direct to the government for loans etc. If that is the area you are thinking of I can let you know about how to do it.

If not, then I'm afraid Im absolutely no help whatsoever but wish you good luck!

I think you need to check with your local authority - they should have a student finance department.

Ellbell · 04/02/2007 17:44

Also, talk to the institution where you want to study (if you already know that). They should be able to put you onto a student adviser who can tell you if you are entitled to anything and if so what...

Good luck.
