Sending sweets into school for the class on my child's birthday?

It's going to be my sons birthday next week on a school day!! (First ever time) when I was little we would send in cake or a lolly for each child or a bag of haribo. Do we still do this??

You need to check with the school. My DDs school allows it but my friend's DCs school doesn't.

Ask the teacher. Cake would probably be a no no due to allergies,but bags of haribo,lollies etc is still done,but it depends on school policy.

Also consider the type of parents in the class. Are they going to be annoyed if their kids are handed sweets?

Last year in reception there were about half a dozen times DS1 came out of school with a haribo bag. It was nice but not necessary.

You could always send in stickers or pencils etc. Although some mardy arsed parent will undoubtedly still moan.

It's allowed at my dc's school, but not everyone does it. I reckon maybe a third to a half of people bother. I do if I remember. DC doesn't seem to mind either way

Don't do haribo because of gelatine - there will be at least one vegetarian in the class and there could be several + children who can't eat it for religious reasons.

In general, pens etc are better than food, but not stuff like hi-bounce balls that could disrupt the lesson if everyone was issued one at the start!

Our school allows it, they hand them out at home time with the parent helping. We did it this year, providing packs of those 'Bear' brand fruit sweets as alternatives for the couple of children with allergies. But actually I ended up feeling really sad for the kids with allergies having to have something else while everyone else took a cake, so I wouldn't do it again unless it was sweets everyone could have.
