ScummyMummy · 03/02/2007 00:32

untrue.

nearlyfourbob · 03/02/2007 00:45

Why couldn't he use it?

thanks everyone. I cannot think of a single reason why he cannot use it, but my mum thinks he needs a special boys potty (with a high bit at the front) and when I laughingly told this to dp, he agreed with her (the first time this has EVER happened) so I thought I'd check with you lot, as it still makes no sense to me.

i'd tell dp that if he's that concerned he can try and find one himself!

Twiglett · 03/02/2007 10:12

hahahahahaahahahahahahahaaa

haahaaaaahaaaaa

a boy's potty

oh bless

hahahahaahaaaaa

Twiglett · 03/02/2007 10:13

you have to make sure their willy is pointing downwards if they're sitting to wee

if a high bit at front is to be of any benefit then that can surely only be if you've not made sure he's pushed his willy's in .. and you're hoping it'll bounce off the sides and slide down

but thanks to your Mum and DH for the morning laugh anyway

fryalot · 03/02/2007 10:15

So...... no point having a trip to Mothercare then? I'll take your advice and suggest both my mum and dp buy one themselves. Will let you know what they come back with!

OP posts:
EllieKwithabigbump · 03/02/2007 10:17

no point at all hun, the only different types mothercare sell are winnie-the-pooh or own brand set them a challenge, if only to give us a giggle!

fryalot · 03/02/2007 10:26

the best of it was... I was incredulous that my mother could possibly think such a thing. Told dp, fully expecting him to give deep belly laugh. Was gobsmacked when he agreed with the mad woman. The only reason I posted this was that I was starting to doubt my sanity!!! You've reassured me that I'm no madder than the rest of you.

OP posts:
EllieKwithabigbump · 03/02/2007 10:27

we're perhaps not the best marker to use for sanity

fryalot · 03/02/2007 10:29

you obviously haven't met my family!!!!

OP posts:
EllieKwithabigbump · 03/02/2007 10:32

and you obviously haven't searched for my recent posts

but no, your are not losing the plot, men like to think they are special, perhaps that's why dp is so keen to buy into the idea of a 'boys' potty!

off to canvas opinion on the due in April thread now, just to see how many dp's think there are 2 kinds

fryalot · 03/02/2007 10:34

let me know...

OP posts:
fryalot · 03/02/2007 10:36

just to put things in perspective: my mum is the person who tried to put ds's nappy on back to front because "it's different for boys"!!!! did you hear me? Back to front!!!!

OP posts:
EllieKwithabigbump · 03/02/2007 10:41

my dad was fascinated that you could re-fasten the tabs, in his day once they were stuck down that was it, and if you got talc on them you could forget it!

of course, he got the nappy wrong way round too, but only through sheer incompetance

Twiglett · 03/02/2007 10:43

your mum is a marketing man's dream

remind her that Huggies launched Girl's and Boy's nappies .. with the premise that the wee is heavier in certain places

they died a death and were taken out of production because

and listen carefully Mum

its rubbish!

fryalot · 03/02/2007 10:45

lol, Twig!! you're right about my mum though. She will be that pensioner that you hear about that has paid thousands for something totally useless because the salesman had sad eyes!

The only problem I had was finding a potty that wasn't pink... or even a neutral colour when potty training my DS.

fryalot · 03/02/2007 11:08

The one I've got is white with a headless duck on the front - the duck did have a head when I bought it for dd.

OP posts:
sockmonkey · 03/02/2007 12:44

was worried for a second then.

foxtrot · 03/02/2007 13:09

Ahem, may i voice an alternative opinion here?
A girl may use any potty but a boy may not use a pink potty, at all ever ( i have just canvasssed my DCs for their views)

fryalot · 03/02/2007 13:12

foxtrot - it's not the colour (I agree, would never put a boy on pink potty) but my family seem to think that there are differently shaped potties for boys and girls - that was my query. Incidentally, perhaps we have spotted a gap in the market....maybe we should set up mnpottiesrus.com? my mum would buy one at least!

OP posts:
foxtrot · 03/02/2007 13:17

A CM did actually recommend to me a good potty for boys (but not an exclusive boys potty IYSWIM) which i have mentioned before here, it's the cheapo asda own brand one, costs about £1, and it does have a high front, good for boys who go off and do a wee by themselves, unsupervised.

fryalot · 03/02/2007 13:30

well, for a quid, I could buy one and tell my mother I've got a special 'boys only' potty. Thank you foxtrot.
