Heads - why so squeaky clean?

From various threads I get the impression that most people wash their childrens' hair really often. Why? I do my children every 2-3 weeks and it looks and smells lovely. I am genuinely puzzled.

every night here

its part of bathtime

No couldn't leave it that long - yuck! Twice a week in this house and they swim once a week so all that chlorine has to be washed out.

Yes Twig but WHY? Mine bath every night (in there next door now) Do yours smear yoghurt and paint in their hair or something?

I do dd's every day because it's fine and curly, and if it's not washed every day it's an absolute bugger to brush.

On the few occasions I've not washed her hair, she smells sweaty and complains that her head itches.

Twiglett · 02/02/2007 18:31

cos DH does it automatically I think

invariably DD (2.9) has paint in her hair

Twiglett · 02/02/2007 18:33

DD shares bath with DS (6) and she likes to wash his hair

I don't think I'd go 2- 3 weeks without washing even if I did it

in fact I'm sure I wouldn't go more than a couple of days

I never brush their hair though .. just damp it down in the morning (DS has straight short hair, DD long and curly)

Thanks for the enlightenment..

Once a week after swimming - too traumatic to do it more often. Brushed twice a day though or else DD's hair gets very tangly.

amidaiwish · 02/02/2007 18:46

about twice a week, when DH is home in time to do the baths i get him to do it "yes, hairwash tonight please! too much moaning for my liking

alittlebitshy · 02/02/2007 18:49

we used to do dd's every night, then it got more and more traumatic, and coupled with an eczema flare up (so not wanting to add shampoo to the bath water) and starting full time school nursery, so earlier bedtime, more tired dd, we decided to do it twice a week. And tbh her hair is a lot smoother, easier to deal with and just nicer now. [bizarre]
