Do teething powders actually work?

And if so which ones should I buy?

I need to find something that will help my dd with teething I'm already using anbesol but this seems only to help short term.

She's 4 months.

Have you given her calpol?

Occasionally yes but I don't want to do that on a regular basis if I can help it. She spits most of it out anyway!

Everyone told me that they were amazing but they didn't work for me at all. From what I've read they are just some sort of Homeopathic nonsense.

Actually, some of the homeopathic ones do work because they are made entirely of sugar! Nothing like a mouthful of icing sugar to distract and cheer up a fretful baby.........

They definitely worked for both of mine. I was very sceptical as I don't believe in homeopathic stuff generally, but I also don't believe a 4 month old can be taken in by hype. If teething was bad, and they woke in the night crying, within a few minutes of giving them the powders they would both go back to sleep.

What Bertrand said. Nurofen only effective remedy ime.

Seeline- sugar has been shown to be a very effective painkiller in small babies.

Sounds like a short term fix like the anbesol then. Might get some and mix it up a bit. I know the best thing is ibuprofen really but she doesn't like medicine

It carried on working way past the small baby stage though Bertrand - especially for the big molars at 2.

My DD loved it (boots own brand), always stopped her crying, although I think this was because of the texture against her gums rather than any mystical new age homeopathic power.

I've gone for calpol today... The powders are only a short term fix.

On the plus side, she does like them
