Kallax with baskets in each square.

honeysucklejasmine · 02/09/2016 14:10

Kallax, with a mix of boxes (toys) doors (technology) and drawers (small or fiddly shit as described by Iggi)

honeysucklejasmine · 02/09/2016 14:12

Added bonus: the rule is if it doesn't fit in the kallax box, or its component parts don't, we don't want it. We have a small house and the last thing we need is huge toys from Grandparents for us to trip over.

When people are saying 'an ottoman' or 'a wicker basket' please tell me your kids have toys in their bedrooms too?
I knew my kids had too much stuff, but if other people are fitting all of their toys into one box then I fear we may have a serious problem Blush

Artandco · 02/09/2016 14:15

No - they don't have any apart from some books and teddy or two in bedroom.

NoCapes · 02/09/2016 14:19

Oh!

Ah...erm...

Pootles2010 · 02/09/2016 14:22

Its the lego thats a bugger, along with big big plastic stuff - playmobil castles, ships etc.

For the lego its tricky - you have to store the bricks themselves, plus lots of assembled models as well. Pain in the arse. And the foot.

We have Kallax is DS's bedroom, but its these two that stump me. And why is trofast so pigging ugly?

Artandco · 02/09/2016 14:25

Ah see we have no large toys like large playmobile structures etc. They have the smaller figures and accessories. Or stuff like building blocks, or magnetic building stuff that gets built as one thing, away in a box, and rebuilt next time.

ImNotAFlower · 02/09/2016 14:26

We just brought an 8 box Kallax it's made me feel like we have our living room back again and for some reason the kids tidy up more often!!!

yomellamoHelly · 02/09/2016 14:39

We had the old version of the Kallax with 12 compartments and a multitude of baskets that fit in it. Then a garage, keyboard, tent, dollshouse etc as well which would get shoved wherever. Then downscaled to a PAX wardrobe which I'm emptying out today. Not sure how much will be left. A definite plus to the kids growing up.

Iagreewithmrsdevere · 02/09/2016 14:43

We've got a tasteful vintage leather trunk so that the lid can just get shut on all the toys. As you can see, it us working really wellGrin

How big are the wicker baskets?! My dc are only 1 and 2 and they already have lots of toys. They would have to be massive baskets!

Artandco · 02/09/2016 14:58

Think our baskets are 50x50x50cm approx. 1 has all wooden train set, wooden Haba blocks and wooden marble run in. They use it all together. Not a huge amount of each.
The other currently has all outdoor stuff like tennis rackets and balls etc in.
Then the ottoman in hall is long and narrow, that has small boxes inside with stuff like Lego, play figures, schleich animals. And any other random stuff like board games and whatever. Art in drawer in kitchen.

I think they have a lot of toys between them. But having larger pieces all out etc when they aren't playing would annoy me. I like that when they are out or asleep the house is toy clutter free

NoCapes · 02/09/2016 15:02

Art I think you'd have a heart attack if you came to my house Grin

I dream of the days that they're all too old for toys and my house is all tidy and colour co-ordinated, then I tell myself that I'll miss it all when they're gone and to enjoy the littleness, loudness and chaos while it lasts

We do need a declutter though conflicted

NickyEds · 02/09/2016 15:07

I can't stand toy clutter in the evening either but we just put it all in the playroom/conservatory!

We use those fabric covered cardboard boxes from ikea (the ones that fold flat), but they don't go into a unit, they just fit under the windows. Then 6 smaller baskets with things like wooden blocks, cars, musical instruments, play food etc which sit on the window sills. We also have some draw string bags with jigsaws in that I hang up. Ds also has a lovely push along wooden fire engine which contains his diggers. A. Lot. Of. Toys. We will have a clear out before Christmas but it's not actually untidy because everything has a place and we have room for it all, if it had to all fit into our living room I would get fancy boxes and use their rooms more and ban the grandparents and dp from buying more.

Iggi999 · 02/09/2016 19:26

We have enough toys to fill a playroom despite not actually having a playroom. So they are everywhere. Thomas the tank play sets, garages, bat cave, pirate ships - none of these fit in wee boxes so end up in big plastic crates under their beds. Or more often, lying all over the living room floor.

attheendoftheday · 04/09/2016 12:25

We have some trofast for lego bits, playmobil figures, plastic dinosaurs/animals/fairies. Then ikea shelves with baskets and larger toys on their own. And an ikea kitchen with some hanging wall pockets with the cups/plates etc in. And an easel with a wooden box of books underneath.

A faux leather brown ottoman from Amazon. Though I'm rubbish as putting the toys away every night!

Ilovecake73 · 04/09/2016 20:55

I love the expression kallaxed up Miaow, made me laugh. We are totally kallaxed up too but I can't be ballaxed at the end of the day to always use them.

MushuDragon · 04/09/2016 21:09

The floor.

We have shelves and fabric boxes/storage but all the toys seem to get 'accidentally' spilt on the floor,,,

Haudyerwheesht · 04/09/2016 21:30

Well just to make everyone feel better we have a playroom with one wall entirely covered in storage boxes filled with toys and bigger stuff like kitchen / garage / trofast etc etc etc all around the sides. Kids have some toys in their rooms like craft sets and dolls house and our dining room has an 8 cube bookcase thing filled with games and books and football cards and stationery.

So the idea that the toys might fit in an ottoman makes me Shock. And very envious! So nocapes I hope that's a comfort!!

No toys in the living room though

except for the action man and shopkins van and Barbie I can see
