poo causing nappy rash?

Dd has had really bad nappy rash on and off for weeks. It seems to clear up, and then comes back with a vengeance (ie sore weepy spots appear just like that) from one nappy change to the next. The latest bout appeared during the day, and she had had that nappy for just over an hour. It seems to be her poo that triggers it, but not all the time. Has anyone else encountered this? I am introducing her to puree, but there doesn't seem to be any one food I can identify that causes the problem. She is on special formula because of milk intolerance.

Dd had hideous nappy rash to the point where she was bleeding. I tried everything. Silk liners helped, but it seems to have been teething that caused it. She's 19 months now has all the teeth until her second set of molars and she's had no rash at all for a couple of months. Metanium also helped. hth

Poo is what causes nappy rash most often than not. The chemicals in pee is broken down by the bacteria in the poo producing acid that strips and irritates the skin. (Don't know all the science terms).

With DD1 she would have a rash the exact same shape as the poo. We got over it by changing her nappy as soon as we smelled she had been, by sniffing her bum every 10 minutes practically and using metanium cream when it was really bad.

I'm using metanium - it's the only thing that touches it. She is teething too, so maybe that is a factor.

I try and catch boy as soon as hes poohed. So he gets LOTS of nappy inspections. If he sits in a poohy nappy for any length of time he gets sore. I use boots nappy cream as a barrier cream which seems to help moderate things.

I can usually smell when dd has pooed, even through her nappy and clothes . Then she gets changed straight away.
