Weaning is going very badly - constant vomiting

In need of some advice and (hopefully) reassurance please.

Dc2 is 6.5 months old and was full term so we started weaning about 3 weeks ago as dc seemed interested, sitting with support, good neck control. Basically, puree is generally ok, but anything solid leads to immediate projectile vomiting. It could be a tiny spoonful of porridge, a chomp on a cucumber stick, whatever.

Dc is breastfed. It looks like so much - at least a whole milk feed comes up. I try to feed at least an hour before meals to give the milk time to go down. Health visitor advised leaving it 2 hours.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm worried.

Dc1 loved weaning and was chomping on solids from 5.5 months, so this is new to me.

My second ds was exactly the same, we just gave purée, and soft well cooked vegetables, nothing hard. It took him much longer than ds1, but also I didn't worry as much. It's totally normal, your dc is still very young, my ds2 has only just stopped the gagging and vomiting in the last few months, and he's just over a year now!

My DS was the same, until about 8 / 9 months. Curiously, it never happened at nursery.
For us, a different high chair sorted it! The one we had had a slightly reclined back even in the most upright position, so the young man - although having good neck support etc. - was never encouraged to sit properly upright.
We then both the Ikea Antilop and vomits stopped immediately. He was just much more "engaged" in that thair! Plus, it was so much easier to clean that the fancy one we had before. Something to think about!

Thank you both! Hehe, we've got the Ikea Antilop - best purchase ever! It's in the dishwasher at the moment Grin

It's hard not to compare dc2 with dc1 - they are so different.

My son started projectile vomiting around 6 months, it was caused by a cows milk allergy. I'd consider whether a food allergy is causing the problem, noting that there can be a considerable time delay between eating the food and the vomit
