My son has a bladder condition. He can hold urine but dribbles inbetween wees iyswim so I have to change his underpants near enough every time he goes to the toilet.
I'm trying to potty train him.He willask to go sometimes or I remind him and he goes but he can't keep his pants totally dry because of the dribbles. He may be able to have an op to stop the dribbling but only when he is 6!!
What can I do in the meantime? I still want to train him the best I can because he knows when he wants a wee but I can't take him out without a pull up on as his pants will be too wet.
I don't want him going to school in nappies.
I want him to be independant.

There are washable training pants available. Bright Bots are apparently quite good. They don't hold a full wee but will stop dribbles from making his trousers wet, however that doesn't solve the problem of having to change his pants. The Bright Bot pants look very much like normal pants so other children need not know any different.

Just a thought have you asked the HV what can be provided are there any discrete products the NHS continence service can provide as he gets a little older. I know it varies between areas but in our are at 4 they provide products but they may be able to advise on something if you wish to buy some earlier.

Your OP described my ds down to a tee, he is almost 6 now, but dribbles like your ds and has upto 8 accidents a day, have you considered using something like tenna lady pads for the dribbles, my ds wont use them, but your might as he is alot younger.

Thanks for the replies.
bright bots don't look suitable,I think he dribbles too much.
The tena ladys may be an option I think I may give them a go.
totaleclipse has your been diagnosed with bladder problems? How do you manage?
My son is only 3.4 but it's still a struggle.

How about trying UpseyDaisy - they look very 'normal'. Also there are Hi-line . Also, if you call Abena at Home 0845 070 1922 - they do boys boxers/girls briefs and I have found these also good. (The reusable briefs are not listed on their website here , so you would need to phone. I know just where you are coming from with this. It is so frustrating but there is no easy answer. We still use the drynites for outings or holidays but as you say,not ideal for school. Do you still use night nappies? We now use XS Tena slips for nights as drynites or pants just can't cope.

They think he may have an immature bladder, he is going for an ultrasound scan on his bladder and kidneys next week to see if this is the case, he was prescribed medication for it few weeks back but we have not seen much improvement, he has full accidents to, upto 8 a day, I wont lie, its hard going we have been battling this for 3 years now, I just wish we knew why it was happening, in 3 years we have gone through 2 3 piece suites, carpets in several rooms and 3 washing machines.

Thanks for the links camperkid.I'll definately give them a go.
My son isn't fully trained in the day yet as I took all the wet pants as a sign he wasn't ready not knowing that he couldn't help wetting himself.
He's in pull ups for preschool and I couldn't see a way of getting him out of them before I saw those links so thanks again
