Think its one thats on my list-to-do so you'll have to tell me what its like!

Is it the one that is split into 3 age categories, pre-school, infants and juniors? I'm pretty sure my supervisor at work did this and thought it was fab and has recommended it to me.

oooh sounds interesting!! I did Child Development as part of my degree and found it fascinating (and that was before I had kids too!). Good luck with it nutty

Think so yeah Posey.

I did childcare at college when I left school and although I enjoyed it I had problems at home at the time and ended up missing alot of time and not sitting the exams.

I love anything to do with kids so i'm hoping I will really enjoy it.

I would like to to the level 2 Child development course afterwards if this goes ok.

Whats your degree in Miaou ?

Behavioural Sciences - basically a mixture of Psychology and Sociology. I did modules in different areas - eg Work, Mental Illness, Child Development, Health and Illness - and looked at them from both a psychological and sociological POV. It was brilliant, really interesting. I really wish I had kept my notes now but by the time I finished I was seriously burnt out (worked too hard )

Oh that sounds great, really interesting. What careers can that lead to then ??

Sorry for being nosey, am always interested in other peoples courses/jobs etc LOL.

Oh well I did nothing useful with it really! Started off in a career which was graduate entry (retail management) but then drifted really. But some of my peers went into research/lecturing or became psychologists, or went on to PHDs etc. A lot of people did that degree having done an access course beforehand - ie didn't have any traditional quals.

Hi - first post for me!
I have done Understanding Children with the OU. It was a very interesting course, and I really enjoyed doing. Was also a good introduction back in to higher education. Did find though that it covered a lot of things that being a parent had already taught me, iykwim? Have changed directions now and am doing some science courses.
Good luck with it, it really is great having something thats 'yours' to do when the kids are in bed. I live on my own with my kids during the week so it's nice to have something to do! .

Hi Applepieandcustard and welcome to MN

I am on my own with my kids too and am desperate for something to do thats just for me so am really looking forward to it.

I would eventually love to do a degree but not sure what in yet LOL.

Nutcracker have a look at Openlearn section of the Open University, its free online study, not certificates or diplomas but looks like a good option.

I am thinking of registering for a basic course with OU but I might have a look at a couple of these while waiting for my course to start in March.

ILoveDolly · 31/01/2007 00:16

hey nutcracker i am doing same course starting March we will have to keep in touch and compare notes!! i am hoping to do a PGCE in 2008 but i have been away from study for quite a while - i really need something to ease me back in too. it looks good .....
