I have started potty training dd (2.6) today. Is there anyone else out there I can share stories of scraping shit off the carpet with????

We gave gone nappy-cold-turkey, straight into Big Girl Pants. She sits on the potty every 20 mins or so. Nothing yet, but we've only been up for an hour

good luck cheesy, it is a shame about you having to use up your hols for this, maybe if it doesn't work you could try a long weeekend next time, taking less leave and if it is going to work then you should know after 3/4 days, imho

at friends ds pt at 22m ! that must be fab

BabiesEverywhere · 29/01/2007 22:06

I have everything crossed

NappiesGalore · 29/01/2007 22:06

yeah right. i bet the 22mo wasnt anywhere near as easy to trin, nor reliable afterwards as his/her parents make out

is that seat/throne thing quite roomy?

I am thinking of getting one of these, my ds isn't enormous, just wondering if they are good for the older pt child?

NappiesGalore · 29/01/2007 22:10

yeah, seems to be roomy enough. ds1 a skinny little thing, but ds2 a much stockier build and he loves the thing...

I like the look of the seat thing

Nappies will you be changing your name once the ds's are trained

NappiesGalore · 29/01/2007 22:29

oh bloody hell yes! and new name will have nothing to do with crap either lol!

mind you, i will still have ds3 to cope with for a bit... (12mo)

CheesyFeet · 29/01/2007 22:30

Loads of time to think of something else then... how about WashingAPlenty

strangefruit, thanks for the tip re 3/4 days, I'll bear that in mind in future. If this attempt fails I will wait till Easter, warmer weather and 4 days off anyway!

nappies..thanks for the links for toilet seats..i think i should investigate this more

all my bribes (from pink taxi, chocolate to going to woolies and having anything you want..) are not working..

for the toilet we have padded insert thing, which doesnt seem very stable and a potty, both rejected out of hand....
also, let him run around naked when changing him when we have time and am sure he holds it in now!

..didnt realise how much i'd not stressed over this for a while...
he has a couple of sessions at preschool per week and am hoping that seeing other children in pants will do the trick..

I hate to say but Iv hardly had any probs at all (apart from ds being bit shy about who he goes loo with)
He started pre-school beginning of Jan,2weeks ago stated that he does not want to wear nappies anymore but big boys pants now.He is 3 in March. He is trained already.I dont EVER have to ask him if he needs a wee,he just dissappears and goes alone.I obviously have to go and assist a little once I realise. He has weed standing up for 3 days now too.He has had 4-5 wee accidents(no poos) in the last 2 weeks(none in last week) and twice was his dad tickling him SO much!!
I tried to train hhim when he was 2.4 for 2days and quickly discovered not ready, then again 2.7 for 1 and a half days.
I am 8months preg and definitely was not going to take it upon myself to start it.Decided to wait until summer, but I really had no choice when it was he who made the choice.
I strongly believe it should be left until really really obvious that the child has total control.
He has woken up dry on a few occassions too but that can definitely wait-no rush there!!

Hope you have a great wee filled potty day

Cheesy Feet...just a word of warning about the potty seat (or throne as we called ours).

dd1 got hers stuck on her head (no I'm not joking).

She loved to take the potty insert out and then flip the seat bit over and put it on her head (like a massive helmet - yes with hindsight I shouldn't of let her do it, but toddlers do like to put things on their heads), anyway one day she got a wee bit overexcited and pulled the whole thing down over her head (so the hole was around her neck), and there it reamined. No amount of pulling, with an oiled up head would get it off. Relating this to you it now is quite funny but at the time it wasn't...she was screeching, dd2 was screeching, I was panicking big time. Anyway a lovely neighbour came round and cut the hole thing off with tin snips.
The whole fiasco worked quite well for us as she developed a bit of a potty phobia after that and would only go on the loo!!

WelshBoris · 30/01/2007 19:54

Bit of a rubbish day, I was in work til 7, DD has been in my mums all day.

Lots of wees on the floor and on chairs but none on the potty.

Got to perserve though.

fennel · 30/01/2007 21:06

dd3 did her first ever wee in the toilet. a successful day.

it's tedious though.

my dd2 was one of those who was actually very easy to potty train at 22 months, by the way. It was far easier than with her little sister who's clueless at nearly a year older than that.

NappiesGalore · 30/01/2007 21:41

todays potty report:
ds1 - seems to be over the pant-hating and now happily puts them on... and wees through them he remembered once to take them down and wee in the loo this afternoon. every other wee was on the floor. sigh.

ds2 - still a bit pathetic with chickenpox and flu/cough/pukey thing, so not bothered with him today. sigh.

fennel · 31/01/2007 08:54

I dreamed of wee, pooh, nappy buckets, smart hotel rooms and public transport.

Not a restful dream.

WelshBoris · 31/01/2007 09:15

DD is nursery, I can breathe a sigh of relief.

She can pee all over their carpets today, see how they like it.
