Did anyone else's child seem to have a personality transplant around this age?
My lovely little boy has gone and seems to have been replaced with an annoying, cheeky, sarcastic, passive aggressive, argumentative little shit!!

He's really getting me down, I could cry today
Tell me it's just a phase? Please tell me it's just a phase?!!

I really really hope it's just a phase!
I have been to see his teacher twice in the last year, only to be told he is a delightful boy with the kindest heart. So it must be me...! HmmConfused

Are you me?! My ds1 who was 7 in April is exactly the same. I kind of put it down to not getting so much attention as I also have ds2 who is 2yo but I'm not so sure. What I am sure about is that his behaviour is driving me crazy, I'm sick of hearing my voice say his name constantly. He always has to be asked at least 6 times to do something and his attitude generally towards us and his brother stinks. It's so different to how he was this time last year!

InsaneDame · 03/08/2016 13:12

It's the answering back to EVERYTHING that gets me and this fact he thinks he knows more than me.... Angry

My DS is 8 and just Angry. He is cheeky, argumentative & has started having tantrums again!
Hope he grows out of it soon - he changed at around 7 ish

NoCapes · 03/08/2016 13:54

Ah I'm so glad it's not just me!

Yes Insane why do they think they know more than us!?! - DS I've been on the planet a lot longer than you have, gone all the way through school, and college, have an A-Level in English language, you however are 7 and have done 3 years of formal schooling I think I can reliably spell brother without you correcting me thankyouverymuch!!!!

I'm so so so relieved to read this, and it's not just me!! DS was 7 in January and is every word the same as your description! He is driving me absolutely mad.

We moved to Germany in 2014 and he has had to learn German, had to go to Kindergarten after having completed reception in the UK and then start an all speaking German school (they start school 2 years later here). I thought it was this and the possible stress from that making him this way.

He argues the toss over everything, if he is being naughty he will manipulate situations to get DD (5) in to trouble because he can't stand her being told she's good, when he is being told his naughty. (Most of the time I know what he's up to and don't blame DD or punish her) He has a lovely habit of trying to swear or curse at me in German, but despite me not speaking German very well - his reason for doing it - I understand what his saying, and then he tries to correct me!

He also does the whole I'm bored thing, where there is literally nothing I can suggest that he will want to do, but he insists I have to give him something to do. Unfortunately this extends to the car, even if we are going somewhere the children want to go, he will piss about, wind his sister up, and scream, shout and bang because his bored and I haven't given him something to do. So sick of telling him off, when even that does nothing, and he will keep on pressing all our buttons.

All that being said, your post has somehow given me hope!

SeaEagleFeather · 04/08/2016 12:20

How do you cope with the feeling that you want to cry? I hate that I feel trepidation in the morning before I see him. He's our lovely, so-wanted little baby and now he's so demanding and argumentative that I honestly don't know what to do.

It's in the back of my mind that we have teenage years to go too :/

ButtMuncher · 04/08/2016 12:25

We've got all this to come - DSS is 7 in 6 days, and I'm pregnant with a little boy as we speak. The two are going to happen together - birth and transition to the 7's Confused

Incidentally this weekend he was very grumpy and attitudey which is so so unlike the boy we see every weekend. That said, he did say he wasn't sleeping well at his Mum's, but that's a whole different story Sad

My ds is 9 and has grown out of it! He can be a little back answery, but nowhere near as bad as he was. This summer (we're on week 6 of the hols) has been very pleasant! He's become helpful and back to being happy and chatty and sweet! I know puberty is on the way so I'm making the most of it!
