would like to use them for my new baby due in 9 days and I need a little help

I am using tots bots rainbows and wacky wraps with fleece liners for dd2

shall I use them for the baby?
I was thinking of using disposable liners because I remember the runny BF poo so may be easier

shall I get tots bots for the baby or are others better for tiny ones??

shall I get aplix or nippa?

How many nappies and how many wraps do you think I need?

also I have size 2 for dd2 and I assume that if I buy size 1 for the baby then she will then use the size 2 when she outgrows the size 1
but I saw on a site that size 1 is birth to 6 months, will the size 2 be ok for a 6 month old, it just seems that if they are fitting a 21 month old then maybe they will be too big for a 6 month old.

babble babble
sorry
really trying to understand all this, love my tots bots and wacky wraps that I have and would love to get it right for the tiny one too. Please could all you lovely nappies fanatics/experts teahc me pleeeeease

I have 11 size 1 tots and 11 size 2 tots. TBH, I thought the tots were too bulky for a newborn. - I chickened out and used moltex eco-disposibles (the brown ones) in hospital, and for about 2 weeks afterwards.

Once I got the hang of them, they were fine. It is all about confidence with a tiny baby.

Gingerbear · 27/01/2007 20:12

Oh, they are aplix by the way. And I use the tots wraps (white ones)

I think the size thing is difficult - depends on your baby really, if you go for nippa size 1 then they can fold down really small or you could get some nippa size 2 and then fold them down (so that you have enough for 2 in nappies, assuming you have a 9-10lb baby).

A friend had twins who until recently (they are 8 mths) have been wearing both bimbles (smaller than size 1 Tots) and size 2 Tots tho being smallish at birth they started with bimbles.

I seem to remember that size 1 Tots have a built in fleece liner as well and that most paper liners don't deal well with new baby poo (too runny) tho the Ultra ones from Waitrose seem to absorb a certain amount of liquid poo (sorry TMI).

How about buying a few size 1 and then using the size 2 at home when it doesn't matter taht your baby has a big bum?

Hi
I would get tots bots but dont forget if baby is tiny then may not fit..DD2 is now 3wks and can only just get size 1 tots to fit her now and they are applix but I use a nippa aswell to get them tighter as the applix overlaps. At the min DD1[13mths] goes through around 5 nappies a day and DD2 is using about 7-9 nappies. I wash every other day.
I use fleece liners with disposable liner on top[I know I know!!] but it works for me...lol Wraps wise I bought some WAHM wraps and think 3 was £7 and they are tiny size.

We used Tots 1 with DS - with a newborn cottonbottoms wrap, they were fine. We too use paper liners on top of fleece ones now, but until DS started solids, just a fleece one is fine. BF poo just kind of soaks in a bit to the fleece and washes out in the machine, without even needing a sluice in the loo.

Gingerbear · 27/01/2007 20:27

Trinity, not sure if you are aware, but your FULL postcode appears on your profile!

Miaou · 27/01/2007 20:32

Trinity - I bought totsbots size 2 non-aplix for ds and used them from birth (he was 8lbs so not huge). I just folded over the top and used the nappy nippa to hold it in place.

I did use disposable liners for a while to start with, but didn't dare flush them down the loo (old system) so ended up rinsing them off anyway ... no point really!

I managed with 12 nappies and two wraps to start with, then added in some more thinner nappies that dh bought cheap off ebay.

Ds is now 18m and is still in totsbots size 2. I have a few size 3's that I used with boosters for night-time (and have a couple of larger wraps for them). They still fit him fine and still have plenty of room to "expand" with him - I doubt I will need to buy more!

HTH

I also found that the bf poo just soaked in to the nappy, I used fleece liners and just put the whole lot in the bucket. It all came out fine in the wash, didn't start putting the poo down the toilet till he started on solids.
I used size 1 bamboozles from birth and size 2 at 4 months but it would obviously depend on the size of your baby.
For next time I would probably just use a booster inside a fleece wrap for the day when they are tiny and the size 1's at night.

pigsinmud · 27/01/2007 20:41

I used (am still using on my skinny 7 month ol dd2) size 1 diddy diapers. They're great. £5 a nappy, nippa fastening and fit well. I have 10 diddy diapers and had about 8 bimbles, but she grew out of these a while ago. Bimbles have a fleece inner. I've never got on with using size 2s on a little one - they have always looked enormous on them. I used fleece liners with the dds - as another poster said, bf poo came off easily in the machine. My babies have never been huge though.
I prefer nippa as I can get a better fit. I use rikki wraps over the top and a couple of size 0 tots wraps when she was tiny. i think I had about 5/6 wraps for newborn phase. Ooh - having a tiny newborn craving moment

TrinityRhino · 27/01/2007 21:14

gingerbear, it said when I made it that if I put it in that I would be able to find other mumsnetters near me and stuff
I thoght everyone was doing it

also surely postcodes cover large areas so it's not that bad to have it there.....is it??
Have taken it off now, you made me panic

Gingerbear · 27/01/2007 21:28

Sorry if I panicked you!
Our postcode covers 6 houses - so it would be quite easy for some stalker nutter to track me down.

Gingerbear · 27/01/2007 21:30

back to nappies - have you looked at the newborn nappies on twinkle on the web? I am quite tempted by the diddy diapers mentioned by schilke, they look very neat.

TrinityRhino · 27/01/2007 21:35

hmm now I thinkg about it, it may only cover a few houses

ooh didy diapers, twinkle on the web, gonna have a look now, thanks
