Toys for 3 month old ...

Hello
I am a first time mum to a now 3 month old baby girl. I want to get her some toys to play with, but without sounding clueless am completely lost with what to buy and don't want to waste money on things that will just sit in the corner
Any suggestions?

DS - 14 weeks - is really into his baby gym at the moment. Wasn't a few weeks ago but has grown into it, reaching out to grab things, bashing things about, etc. We have a Tiny Love one with different animal toys but I hear Fisher Price ones are also good.
He's also starting to show a bit more interest in the Lamaze toys people bought as gifts, but they're still a bit big for him to really enjoy.
I've found it hard to find things that he can comfortably grip onto, but he seems to like his Loopy Links.
Maybe some sensory-type stuff could be good as well, eg silky scarves, funny pom poms, bubbles.
Hard at this age - feels like a case of trial and error. Is there a toy library/playgroup you guys could go along to where you could try some things out?

I would second the tiny love baby gym, my 4 month old loves it! Also it's quite portable so handy when we're going to friends/relatives for the day and then he has somewhere familiar to play. We also have a couple of rattly soft toys with long 'stick-shaped' bodies and arms that are easy for little hands to grab. One bought recently from Boots.

Soft things like these are good IMO.

Anything she can get a good grip of. Both of mine loved hand puppets as they could grab them and pull them off.

There are lots of sets with toy keys and things in them made from hard plastic, I would recommend avoiding those as I have never met a baby who hasn't ended up whacking themselves in the face.

I've just discovered a brand called Sassy (or Sassy Baby) and they do really colourful toys. What I especially like is that some are black & white - my ds loved anything black around 3mths old. He's 8mths now so I've discovered this brand a bit too late for him but I've just bought some of their toys for a pregnant friend. John Lewis sell some of their selection. (I'd add a link but not sure how to do them...!)

At 3 months DD wasn't really interested in toys, but at about 6 months the baby gym provided a diversion for her.
