Shampoo nightmare!

My DD is 13 months and really likes having a bath. The only problem is when it comes to rinsing the shampoo from her hair she screams the place down, stands up, waves her arms and stamps her legs. I'm getting the feeling she doesn't like that bit!

I have bought a shampoo shield for her, but every time I put it on, she pulls it off. I've tried putting my hand over her eyes, but again she just moves my hand.

So what happens is I ending shouting 1, 2, 3 over her screaming and then just pouring loads of water over her until all the shampoo is out. Not the best way, me thinks!

Any advice would be much appreciated

i did that too! i found that it wa the only way once my dd decided that she wouldnt lie down anymore - she is now 2.6 and still doesnt like it - although she doesnt scream as much - she sometimes puts a facecloth over her face and we wring it out once we have finished!

At my dd's swimming lessons they train the babies to shut their eyes and get ready for the water by saying 'name, ready, go' then splashing water on their faces. Maybe start doing that 3 times every bath time until your dd gets the message, and then try it when rinsing shampoo? We only wash dd's hair once a week anyway, maybe try doing it less often?

Otherwise you could try washing it with a wet flannel so that you're not pouring water over her head? Although I suppose that depends on how thick your dd's hair is...

i used to lay ds down on a rubber bath mat in fact i still do and he's now 5 and swish the water round his hair, sit him up, shampoo hair and soap on body then lay back downto rinse off. works well and no water or splashes in his face or eyes.

My little boy never liked having his hair washed until I had an idea. I put the shampoo in and pulled his hair into funny shapes and let him look at it in the mirror. For ages afterwards he used to love having his hair washed, we made a real game of it.

Now he's a bit older we only have to do it sometimes. We also laugh together about how he used to cry when he was a baby having his hair washed and that 'big boys' don't mind - makes him feel very grown up!

really funny idea that my dd did at the swimming pool recently...she didnt have her usual flannel so she held her goggles on her eyes instead..you could put the goggles on you...then she if she wants to try them too?

Thanks for all your messages. My DD won't lie down in the bath now, so there's no chance of her lying back and not getting water in her face. My DD also goes swimming and she was used to the "name ready go" thing, but she doesn't go for that either now.

I will try the goggles, that might work.

I would like to try pulling her hair into funny shapes, but she hardly has any hair on top, she's got a kind of "mullett" going on!

Thanks for all your messages. I'll keep perservering. At the moment me and DH flip a coin for who gets the pleasure of bathing DD!
