How'y all suggetions welcome here please!
dd1 has been happily potty trained during the day for about 6mths, so thought we'd try nighttimes........1st 3 nights last week were great, hurrah thought I'd cracked it, harhar......one wet bed a night, even with lifting her at 10/11pm since then and then last night, as I was out babysitting, dh forgot to lift her, so I had two wet beds to deal with, any suggestions welcome, would prefer not to go back to nappies.....

Can you "train" them at night? I thought that you had to pretty much wait until they were ready (some hormone or other is produced which wakes them when bladder is full.

How old is dd1?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/01/2007 09:55

Ladymuck is right - you can't night train them. You can just wait until they're naturally dry.

NotQuiteCockney · 25/01/2007 09:55

(FWIW - DS1 was dry at 3. DS2 is 2 and a few months, and isn't at all potty trained. But is dry at night!)

Sorry but ds2 is over 5 and not reliable yet, agree you can't train them they are ready when they are ready.

amidaiwish · 25/01/2007 10:10

there have been threads on this, but night time isn't about "training" - the body has to be physiologically ready: the hormone something pressin has to kick in which concentrates the urine so the bladder doesn't get full at night and then empties. Commonly that can be up to 5 or 6 years old. Wait until you are getting dry nappies in the morning and then have a go.

I still have to lift my ds sometimes who is 6 at bedtime, so like the other posters have said don't expect too much at this stage.

Frizbe · 25/01/2007 10:22

Ah ok thanks for that! she's 3, odd thing is she was dry, which is why I left her nappy off! then after 3 days of it, bang, all went to pot....sigh.....

May be at the route of the problem, turns out that since leaving me and going to pre school to coming home at lunch, she's not been drinking, hence the drinks are stacking up later in day rather than earlier, will be chatting to pre school re drinks tomorrow!

hey friz, my dd is dry at night - she had 3 dry nappies so we took the plunge. she did wet the bed about 3 times a week for the first 2-3 weeks, but now she is reliably dry, no lifting. yay! anyway, I would suggest keep going with no nappies for a bit longer - she might just need a bit longer to catch on and you might regret it if you pack it in. Try a star chart/reward and put a towel with a sheet of plastic under it on her bed (on top of the sheets), so if she wets you can just whip off the towel and put her back to bed.

yo cAN train them at night - just hard work

Daemara · 26/01/2007 13:40

Frizbe - i'd still trade my ds being dry at night for your dd doing poo's on the toilet! I guess they will both get it eventually, and we will at the very least have horror stories to share with future boy/girlfriends about what terrible little snots our kids were! anyway big hugs followed by another coughing fit!
