Tips needed for earring removal!

My DSD got her ears pierced for her 6th birthday recently. Not my idea of a great 6th birthday present but obviously nothing to do with me and absolutely her parents decision.

It's all gone a bit tits up. Her mum was sold the magical 3 week healing cream by Claire's Accessories and so tried to change the earrings after 3 weeks when they were nowhere near healed. She managed to get one out which has now healed up however DSD refuses to let anyone go near the other one due to the pain of taking the earring out. So she's got a bit of a pirate look going on right now, which is fine for the short term but she can't go around with one earring in indefinitely. Does anyone have any tips for ways we can try and get the other earring out without traumatising her completely?

We've tried doing it in her sleep which didn't work. I was possibly thinking about putting some numbing cream on - any brands anyone could recommend?

All ideas gratefully received!

If her ear is too painful to touch, it could be infected. I would take her to the doctors if you think this is the case.
I thought the advice was to bathe new piercings daily with antiseptic and avoid removing them for 6 weeks. At 6yrs, she would have needed an adult to help her with this.
If she has to leave one earring in a bit longer it's not the end of the world.
