Sleeping positions - what happens when baby rolls over???

My DS has learnt the knack of rolling from back to front but he can not roll back.... This has not been a problem at bed time as he seemed caged by his grobag but now he does it at night too and then cries as he gets stuck.

Anyideas ? Should I keep putting him back on his back or if he does not cry on his tummy, is it ok to leave him there?

Thanks xx

If he were my ds I wouldn't be going in to turn him over unless he were crying. Ds2 (5 months) finally rolled from front to back last week, having cracked back to front a little while earlier. He has yet to do any rolling in his cot though.

I agree with PT, I never turned my DS. But if he's crying you could try tucking the end of his grobag in under the mattress so he can't roll over.

I have a good friend who is a midwife and I always ask her questions like this. She said that if the baby can roll over on its own dont worry about turning them back, as long they can lift their heads or will cry if they get uncomfortable that will be ok.

I peronsally found ds slept better once he could roll over.

I don't know if my solution appeals to you but here goes, we rolled a couple of bath towels up first folded lengthways in half then tucked the open ends down the side of the cot mattress. The LO still has some fidget room but not enough to roll over. It worked for us at a time I was considering stapling the grobag to the mattress

When my DS could do this, I practiced with him in the day to get him to learn how to get himself onto his back again. Just did it over and over, showing him how to push his arm and leg up then he would just pop over. He eventually got the hang of it and stopped crying at night.

Asked my HV the same thing and she also said that if he can lift his head then he was ok. She said to move him if you go in to check him but dont worry about it all night.

Good Luck. xxx
