Homemade baby food with formula stored in the fridge?

Hi,

Yesterday I made my 6 month old son some carrot purée for the first time. I added some formula from the bottle he was having at the time. I have put half the purée in the fridge intending to give him it today. Will it be ok with the formula in it? I know you are meant to throw away unfinished bottles after 2 hours. Do the same rules apply when mixed with food and stored in the fridge?
Thanks for your help.

If you poured it from the bottle before he drank from it then personally I used the 24hr rule. In the future though you can use cows milk for cooking to avoid doubt.

Thanks for your reply. I added it after he had drunk about 3/4s of the bottle which is why I'm a bit worried. It was our first ever attempt at weaning so I'm a bit unsure of myself!

I'd bin it esp as he is so young.
Tbh we mashed veg with a little cows milk and margarine / butter and kept it a little lumpy. Also tried soft boiled veg and soft fruit he could hold and chew.

I think you're right. Will try some mashed banana today then as I have no carrots left! A new food everyday is OK isn't it?

I always gave Mine a new food nearly every day as I didn't batch cook at all.

BTW I'd also throw yesterday's stuff out.

With my second we did something new most meals so early days with just one meal she got something new most days and later more as the amount of meals increased.

Oh and take it easy with bananas (so not every day or large quantities) as they made mine a bit constipated esp when they were little.

Thank you all. I got rid of the carrot and gave him mashed banana mixed with some formula. He was most unimpressed! Will try sweet potato tomorrow and see if that proves more popular than the first two offerings!

I never mixed any of mine with formula, just veg on their own or with cows milk if they needed more moisture.

If you want to use formula to make it taste more like he is used to (I did this) then I would puree or mash the carrots without anything in then store in fridge for upto 24hours and add formula when you serve.

DollyBarton · 27/06/2016 21:46

I keep formula in the fridge for 24 hrs so wouldn't worry.

DollyBarton · 27/06/2016 21:47

I'd store veg purée for a few days no worries.

If you are going to worry and it's something so simple, don't do it, is my advice after hours of frantic googling!

Try mashed parsnip with a bit of unsalted butter, it's sweeter so babies tend to like it.

Use ice cube trays and freeze the food that way keeping it fresh and only need to defrost/heat small amounts each time
