Slings: Am I a weakling or just very thick?

And seriously, is there going to be ANY part of having a baby I can do? My baby has an umbilical hernia the size of an orange, can't breastfeed, vomits everything she drinks, has gummy eyes, has Struwelpeter fingernails (yeah, I just get a bit panicky with the baby scissors) and now, NOW, I can't even work a sling!

The sling I made people buy me, and have been excited about getting for weeks, is the Hotsling. It's a slightly stretchy sash with a slightly padded rim. I have followed the instructions - it says fold it in on itself, line up the seam with the nipple opposite the shoulder, and slip the baby in, holding it in the non-dominant arm and lowering in bum first, crossing its feet.

First of all, my baby is small, 8 pounds - so this should be easy - but I can't hold her with just my left arm. Then I tried to squeeze her in and she was very patient and only started to melt down at the end, but all her legs were squashed and I just couldn't get her to go all the way in. I've consulted the chart, it comes in 5 sizes, I have size 2, and fit neatly into all the size 2 categories, 5'2", 122 pounds. The next size up is from 130 pounds.

To be honest, I'm not even sure I'm folding and putting it on properly. And it was expensive and I can't take it back, but I think I must have the wrong size.

Everyone says it's easy! Is there an easy tip that makes it so?

I don't have a hotsling, so can't help much, but have you looked at the \link{http://www.kangarookorner.com/wearing.aspxKangaroo Korner} website?

I have one of their fleece pouches, which I love, but they have instructions and advice about other types of sling. They don't sell hotslings but have similar ones, so I wondered if their instructions might help.

And I am sure you are doing wonderfully with your DD. Stop being so hard on yourself!

Ah, you are always so kind to me. I think I'm just very bad at physical skills and motherhood is all about the physical skills, and I'm rather cacky handed. That's an excellent link, thank you - I'm looking up the troubleshooting page now.

Hope it helps!

It's amazing how good I've become at using my left hand since having DS. I'm very dominantly right handed and couldn't use my left hand to do anything before! And as they get older and more independent, your physical skills matter less anyway!

Different topic, macneil, but I saw this thread and thought of you (because I don't know of anyone else in Canada)

Oh, will post my useless and limited knowledge!
