Board games for 4 year old

I'm looking at getting some games (thinking board games/cards) to play with my 4 year old. And also games she can play alone, as we want to implement quiet time as dd2 still naps.

But I can't think of anything suitable! What would you recommend?

Google Orchard Toys they have fabulous games for children. Bus stop is a big favourite here as is good old snakes and ladders.

We just got Dobble and my almost 4yo plays it with her big sister. It's the kind of game that is timeless and is a good travel one also.

if you can find it in the UK candyland is a great game for kids as you don't need to count.

Orchard games, loved em my kids when younger!

My almost 4 yo loves the memory card game. Also snakes and ladders. Jigsaws are her favourite go to when shes asked to entertain herself when I'm dealing with 20mo ds. She also likes kerplunk... until she loses

Haha, I can already imagine my DD's reaction to loosing! She also likes puzzles but between the two kids we always seem to lose pieces!

Didn't know candy land was also a board game!

Orchard Games are all brilliant and much beloved of my almost 4 year old. He particularly loves 'Dotty Dinosaurs', 'Cake Monster' and 'Tummy Ache' (liked by all of us).

His sister hated all games at that age - turns out she can't stand games of chance and now nearly 7 is doing better with games where she has a chance to influence the outcome!

Top trumps and dobble are the winners here.

Sleeper that's interesting, we haven't really done any boards games with the girls yet, so not sure how they will react to that type of game!

I think the toy shop in town has some orchard games so will have a look next time I'm there (hopefully without the kids!)

We were late to the party with Dobble - one of those games that everyone seemed to have and heard of except us!

Same with Uno (from about age 5) - fantastic card game that is useful when you have to hang around in waiting rooms/airports/tents when's it raining! We only just got it and it appears to have been around since the 1970s!

And yes to Orchard games - excellent and well made, good value for money. Be careful bough that you don't end up with similar games. Is. A few of their games have the same basis like memory cards/collecting items (shopping list game and the lunch box game are virtually the same for example)

Definitely Orchard Games, both mine adored them all especially 'Shopping List' where you have to collect all items in your list and place on your trolley shaped board. DS(9) gets it out quietly and plays it by himself sometimes even now!

Orchard space game was a favourite here, plus snakes and ladders, Whot! cards and any memory game cards. For playing on his own, hot wheels cars kept him amused the most followed by playdoh, sticker books (Usborne do some great themed ones), duplo and he had just started to get into playmobil.

Will definitely get Dobble, as most of you recommend it! I hadn't heard of it before, but apparently DH had.

cremebrulee I do like it when games have lasting power like that!

Another orchard games fan here.
My nearly 4 year old DS likes shopping list, the rocket game and the caterpillar numbers one.
I quite enjoy playing them with him as well

Just realised we had bought snakes and ladders a while back, so will get it out this week (DD1 must have been too young at the time!)

I'm hoping board games will involve less "bossing around" than pretend play does at the moment
