Another nappy rash question........

My DS is in reusables and we keep(every week or two) getting outbreaks of nappy rash that is very itchy (he scratchs if I try to give him nappy off time). Took him to the docs and he prescribed Timodene which cleared it up a treat. We keep getting periodic outbreaks which we use the Timodene on but now come to the end of the tube. Doc is reluctant to re-prescribe and the HV has suggested putting him in disposables for a while (slightly horrified we've just got the whole reusable thing working soo well for us + they leak!)We do all the normal good practice stuff like wash the nappies on a hot wash and in non-bio, only wash DS bum in water - except when out and use metanium (which works to for a while - have tried all the other creams).
What can we do to stop these periodic outbreaks???? - please not disposables not now!!
PS Thanks for any replies I may not get back to you for a day or so but appreciate any advice.

not sure if this owuld help but (we used washables too by the way) have you tried re reinsing the nappies? What I mean is wash them as normal and then put back in machine for a wash (quick would be fine) without washing powder. worked for freind's child..trouble is it's probably not very environmentally friendly but it must be better than disposables.
we sued tomdene still actualy for a 'nappy rash' type thing that my 7 year old gets if she is run down (she has eczema and asthma) on her vulva.

Have you tried stripping the nappies? This worked for us as the detergent build up can set off a rash. All you need to do is wash them on hot with no powder at all. They will still come out clean as there will be sufficient powder residue in the fabric to clean them. Also, I use bepanthen cream on ds when he has any redness and that usually does the trick.

Hi

also had problems with recurrent nappy rash have found using a micro fiber booster is fantastic at keeping their bums dry and using a bourette silk liner when they have nappy rash as it helps with healing i've found them so good i use them all the time to prevent recurrence, when i used paper liners i found he got a lot more nappy rash. the only draw back with the silk liners is they are hand wash i've taken to putting them in with the nappies on a 40 wash with no bad effects so far!!

Thanks for the help so far - a few thingss for me to try. Really don't want to go to disposables as it dosen't solve the problem - most of us were probably brought up in cloth and survived so there has got to be solutions to this. Thanks
