Every month until he was 1. Now I just weigh him every now and again on the bathroom scales at home.

DS1 is 21 months and last time he was weighed was when he was 6 months. He had a check at 13 months but they didn't weigh him. HV pretty much told me not to bother when he got to 6m as his weight always tracked fine.

Weekly ish (the clinic is 4 doors away) until j went back to work, and not at all since.

Mine were weighed every couple of days until they were 2 weeks, then 6 week check, then every time they went for vaccinations.

I don't know why you would need to weigh them frequently unless there were concerns over your babies weight?

Thanks everyone, I think I'll give up trying to get them weighed, some mums and playgroup made me feel guilty I hadn't done it but my kids are healthy and getting heavier to lift so I'll stop worrying.

I'd say 6 weeks unless there is a problem that needs monitoring. Then parents should just keep an eye that dc isn't generally looking too heavy or eating too little later on as I think that would merit a trip to the GP to both weigh and discuss. You can weight your child regularly but once they are past newborn I think it's completely unnecessary as long as you watch their food intake (that it's vaguely healthy and of an OK quantity).

DC1 was FF and a chunk, so he only got weighed when a HV came. I never bothered as he was clearly fine.

DC2 I took to the self-weigh clinic once a month as she was BF and I liked to give myself a pat on the back by seeing how well she was doing!

Fairuza · 09/06/2016 19:55

First few weeks and then official checks.

It's a waste of HV time and resources to take healthy children to be weighed every week/month, surely?

OhTheRoses · 09/06/2016 20:05

I went once. To queue in a grubby doctors waiting room with sick people. The hv didn't have the scales set to zero and plotted a weight less than two weeks previously without comment on the chart. Then got arsy when I asked for the scales to be reset and the correct weight recorded. What. Was. The. Point. What is the point. Never went again.

I could see mine filling out and growing into clothes. If not perhaps I'd have thought it worthwhile.

I'm not sure if the obsession with weight gain is healthy in the long term, especially as Britain is the fat man of Europe and this weighing obsession is unknown on the Continent.

Just think what the NHS could do with those resources like targetting vulnerable children it's bizarre.

Dc1 once a month
Dc2 got weighed at birth, and the HV home checks, then not since. Never taken him to clinic apart from for jabs

DD was weighed once a month until a year, then every 6 months until 2 years and now she gets weighed and measured once a year as part of her yearly check up (not in the UK - I'm in Finland and yearly check ups are part of the national health service, they'll be done as part of school health services once she starts school).

I'd certainly not stop that - I think its wise to keep an eye on your child's weight and height, its very easy to not realise your child is overweight when so many other children are overweight that its become the new normal.

She also gets her weight checked whenever she sees a doctor for an illness that requires medicine so they can get the dosage right.

glueandstick · 09/06/2016 23:50

Three times in total. Felt it was a waste of time from day 10 when the midwife was concerned that the beast hadn't put on the 20g to go back to birth weight. (Just 20g off)

6 week check it was done and I popped to a clinic just once to see if a swing was capable of taking the weight as my kitchen scales said error.

I'm not bothering again.

waitingforsomething · 10/06/2016 05:53

Dd I used to have weighed all the time at least monthly.
Ds I had weighed once at 4 months and once at 9 months at his development check. I could see he was growing and sleeping/eating so didn't feel the need to go
