Help with stiff / scratchy real nappies

I have been using Bamboozles mostly but have a couple of Totsbots rainbows (second hand). They feel quite stiff, which may be because they have been washed in hard water. I have been told that vinegar will help. Do I soak them? For how long? etc etc.
One of you nappy people out there must be able to help me!
Please?

vinegar in the final rinse should help...

I tried half a cup of white vinegar and a few drops of tea tree oil in the fabric conditioner draw for the first time earlier this week and it really made a difference - my nappies were lovely and soft even though I dry them on the radiator. Had read about this tip before and was a bit sceptical but it does work (and is fairly cheap!)

or leave them on the line for a few days in the rain! Vinegar or blast in tumble drier usually does the trick.

I have to add that my water is not hard, the nappies kinda arrived like that. I was using vinegar as a nappy bin sanitiser, though that was quite diluted, and thought that would have sorted them. I will try the suggestions you have given me. Thanks a million. (Isn't this place great!{MN})
