Wet skin in reusables and sore bum

I started using reusable nappies yesterday (wambamboos)and they are really lovely. Only thing is they leave DS's skin damp and I'm wondering if this is the case with reusables or whether they still havent reached peak absorbancy due to being new? I have washed them 3 times.

Tonight I have taken nappy off to find really red skin and now I feel guilty for changing him to reusables if they are going to make him sore. I want to carry on so any advice would be welcome!!

Off to put him to bed but back soon.

Fleece liners are my best investment ever (i bought some off e-bay as my attempts at cutting my own were a bit mad!). Second the wipes idea too but I just use water and they do the job...

.....I rinsed bfed poo in the power shower - it all goes into the same sewer and it's only your milk!! reading evilsparkly's 'hokey cokey' as that is exactly what I do with solid poos.

Wacky wraps - Flame I am loving my tractor and fairy ones - DD2 will be wearing only these in summer but for now they are great at night. Do try and hand wash tho as they would go bobbly really quickly I reckon.

Yup, they do go bobbly quick I can't be arsed with handwashing em though!

Hi

microfiber boosters/liners are fantastic at keeping bums nice and dry, i find them even better than fleece liners.

Well so far the fleece is proving to be fab!! We've had two full days in reusables and rash has gone - yippee!! Definately well worth it and it is nice not to have a huge load of disposable nappies lying around.

For all you recommending putting fleece liners straight in wash - DS is 11 months. If poo is solid I kind of flick it down loo then rinse in sink with rubber gloves on, that is working ok.

What vinegar is best for rinsing? Is is white wine vinegar?

Had all nappies on line today, all white and fluffy and I felt very proud!!! I can see how this all gets very addictive!!

3k, welcome to Nappyholics Anon.

Just white vinegar is what you need.I get mine in Wilkis in a spray bottle and just tip a bit in the fabric conditioner drawer. It's in the cleaning aisle. I use the spray bottles to make my own cleaner up in as I am now a signed up vinegar addict too!

nwgreen..... our bf poo liners get chucked straight in the wash too

i always do a rinse cycle before the main wash as well so that gets rid of any toddler poo that was resistant to our efforts to dislodge it.

if baby has sensitive skin prone to rash i highly recommend the fleece wipes soaked in chamomile tea with a dash of honey and a few drops of tea tree. very soothing. i use old plastic tubs that Chinese food came in and fill with wipes and pour the tea over... keeps them lovely and moist

Flamesparrow · 22/01/2007 19:39

I use the chinese tubs too
