29 month old will not go in potty

My dd is almost 29 months and refusing to use the potty. We started last week and she was doing quite well. She managed to use the potty and toilet for a couple of days, but she was holding on until the very last moment! She wants to go for a wee about every 2.5hrs, and is dry when she awakes from her nap.

She has not used the potty at all since Friday, and continues to just do it all in her knickers. I am thinking of giving her a break for a couple of week, as I am getting a bit frustrated and I don?t want her to be so upset when asked to use the potty or toilet. Is this a good idea? She has a reward chart and has chosen her potty, and I have even bribed with ice-lollies! Nothing has yet worked. Perhaps she is just not ready to give up her nappies. She wants me to change her when she wets her pull-ups, and does realise what the potty is for.

We have been out a few times with just knickers and she has done fine ? although she had used the floor as a toilet before leaving the house. Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks.

Thanks for your messages. DD went to nursery yesterday in pull-ups, and I was told that she used the toilet twice that day. I think seeing other children use it and the toilet being a lot smaller seems to help.

I have put her back in pull-ups, since Monday, although she has now been wanting to be picked up, and becomes quiet when she wants to wee! She has also been holding it until the last minute in nappies, and wet the floor twice this morning, when she was getting ready for bath.
She still does not wish to use the potty when I ask her on these occaisions. Should I continue to ask her?

Also, how long do you think I should give her a break and put her in nappies for in consideration of her using the toilet at nursery?

I left it until ds was begging to get out of his nappy, he was almost 3, and he was dry nigth and day within a few weks with few accidents.
I intend to do the same with dd...
I was too scared to get into issues with toileting ;(

Thanks for your responses. I am giving dd a break of about two weeks, and not pressed the toilet topic. Have not asked her to sit on the toilet or mentioned it.

I have not put her in knickers and I have just been using pull-ups at home and out. They have, however, continued to use a combination of pull-ups and knickers at her nursery, where she has continued to ?hold? it and then wets the floor. She has used the toilet there a few times, and at home she continues to show interest, just not to actually use it when she needs to. I also don't believe in pushing her when she is not ready. I would rather wait until she actually shows more interest and does not get upset.

She still has been holding on until the last minute, and asks to be picked up when she needs to go - in pull-ups! And then she looks at the floor or my lap to see if she has wet it! I have never made her embarrassed when she wets the floor so I wonder why this continues to happen. She has a toilet seat and steps already - she definitely prefers the toilet.

My ds started telling me he wanted a wee wee around 2yrs. However he won't poo anywhere other than pants or nappy!!! He has never gone on the potty at all. He wanted to sit on the toilet like mummy does. So we brought on of those wooden toilet seat with a smaller kids seat that folds up. Very good would highly reccomend them. The only other thing I can suggest is to be very open when you go to the loo and let her come in and see you on the loo. Make a really big thing of this is what big boys and girls do and you're a big girl do you want to go on the toilet etc. It seemed to work for me. Other the the poos!!!!!
