... mother was when I read Harry Potter when dd1 was 5 months old and I suddenly felt with such force such understanding for Harry's mum - that I would give up my life for my child, immediately, if necessary.

Just thought of that after watching The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Hope it's not too corny!

have you ever read any Stephen King? DO NOT read Pet Semetary. I read it before children, fine, a bit sad but fine. I have not read it since. I won't. In Fact, I will probably never read it agin.

I suddenly find myself listening to songs on the radio and thinking - ''that's filthy! how do they get away with such lyrics -what if the dcs overheard???"

(prompted by Lily Allen's Trouble and yesterday an Alanis Morisette song - the one where she says something like 'would you go down on him in the theater')

I used to laugh at those people who complained about song lyrics and wanted them rated. I quite happily ran around at uni singing I wanted your sex and Touch Myself

Ok, I realise mine's not quite as touching, but still an example of how much things change when you're a mum.

Sugar....I thought exactly that when my dd1 (who's 5) announced her favourite song was "Barbie Girl"... "Aw how sweet" I thought, "she's got a favourite song!" Then I actually sat and listened to it!!!!!!
Its awful!!!! Basically saying that the woman would be the blokes dolly...and he can undress her everywhere....have hanky panky...do gawd knows whatever...as long as he loved her! How do they get away with putting this stuff on a "Children's Party Disc"!!!

Yes I know this is very mild compared to most lyrics and conotations but it still made me very over protective!! Especially as she puts it on continuous loop!
I'm hoping she doesn't actually think anything more to it than it just being a song about Barbie!!!!

Sugarmagnolia · 14/01/2007 08:25

OMG ludaloo - that's terrible - at least I was listening to a classic rock station and not a children's party CD. Someone obviously just saw it was Barbie and didn't bother to listen to the lyrics. It's probably fine at 5 but what about when she's 8 or 9???

ludaloo · 14/01/2007 08:34

I think that cd might have to "accidently" get lost!!!!!!!

shouldbedoingthehousework · 14/01/2007 08:50

lol ludaloo - our dd's sound v similar! My dd has a kids party CD with that song on too, and loves it. She did ask why the man singing it likes to change Barbies clothes and I just said something silly like he must be helping his little girl play with her dolls

I certainly didn't expect the thread to take this turn!

Ah, Emkana, that's lovely. Felt the same first time I read it post-ds. Can't stop blubbing when I hear things like Nick Clark's audio diary (the R4 presenter who died of cancer last year - had two 5yo boys).
