14 month old "tells" me when she's poo'd

Is this advanced or just a phase?

She generally takes herself off down the kitchen and squats then pulls her top up and points to her nappy.

She just finished lunch and "told" me in a similar way that her nappy was full - still sitting in her high chair.

I hadn't even begun to think about potty training but it does seem she knows when she's about to go and certainly when she has gone.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Not anticipating having her out of nappies particularly soon but would love to encourage her and keep her at it in terms of "telling" me.

BTW, she can only actually say 2 or 3 words!

Cheers

Its the start of potty training "being aware" dd2 did this then moved on to telling me when she was wet (or taking it off herself) then decided to train herself on dd1s potty

Paddlechick, dd is just gone 15 months and has been doing this too - when she dirtys her nappy she tugs at it and says "poo poo mama" so Ive been really thinkin along the same lines as you.. so I looked it up in "what to expect the toddler years" and it says that a childs bladder is so immature before 20months old and emptys so so frequently that even an adult would have a very hard time trying to control or get to the loo on time. So, if thats to go by, maybe it could be a little hard for them??

I've been interested in the EC thing and have read some bits and pieces on it.

Don't think it's something I could really get the hang of tho!

Thanks for all your responses. Am encouraged to think it's the start of potty training.

Current vocab doesn't include poo-poo yet but I think it will soon.

This weekend we have progressed to pointing upstairs or going to the foot of the stairs to have her nappy changed!

I am stupidly proud of this progress LOL!

Kids are amazing aren't they!

Dont want to pee on your parade(excuse the pun) but dd was the same from an early age. Would tell you she was going for a poo and hide. Yet despite this its only now that we are potty training at 2 and half.

my dd is 18 months and has been doing this for a good few months. as she's a neglected 2nd child there's no way i'm potty training her 'til she's at least 2, if not 2.5 as ds was. it's helpful though, when she tells us.
